The article skims over important facts to make the author’s case sound plausible.
1) All defence aquisitions so far and those proposed are also suited to continental defence and its seaward approaches (we currently lack credible #anti-missile defence and #deterence)
2) any sizeable reserve is expensive to maintain (the lack of training days available is a perennial issue)
3) arms #manufacturing independence is not only costly but requires a sizeable market share to be viable but also requires a suitably skilled #workforce (which we do not have in sufficient numbers)
4) an expansion of the #ADF (in any shaoe or form) needs a #logistics tail whose depth is restricted by our small #population relative to the numbers required for an independent continental defence strategy.

I can come up with more but that will suffice to get anyone thinking beyond pie-in-the-sky stuff… the author ought to know better then peddle his political ideas based on superficial analysis.
