#Tudor has so many variants of Black Bay 58 that it is hard to keep track of all of them. The M79018V-0006 is a big heavy chunk of 18K gold shaped like a watch. Absolutely ridiculous and a terrible proposition but I guess someone might like it. #watches #watchesofmastodon

Last year, I passed on the opportunity to acquire a #JLC Reverso 240.8.15. A lot of details make this reference a stand out:
- 5-links steel bracelet which is excessively rare as most Reversos are on leather straps
- unusual dial layout with power reserve at 10-11, big date at 7, small seconds at 5
- 2nd face with open case back exhibiting balance wheel and dual barrels for 8 days power reserve

For the past few years the trend of #watches featuring Genta-like design and integrated bracelet has seen a resurgence thanks to the PRX. It is not really my taste but I thought I should at least give it a try. Enter the recent releases from #Tissot with the red PRX quartz 35mm and the Damascus steel PRX 38mm. The red one has a comfy size but it is very plain outside of the pop of color on the dial. Damascus case is surprisingly good-looking but leather band is a flimsy mess. #watchesofmastodon

Being at the #GrandSeiko boutique in Paris was my chance to try the last few releases from the Japanese watchmaker. The SLGB005 and SLGW007 are interesting variations on the flagship Spring Drive UFA and flagship 9SA4 models with a switch from titanium to steel and gloriously textured dark dials. Unfortunately imho both are compromising on the wearing experience due to respectively loss of micro-adjust system and swapping crocodile leather with cow leather straps. #watches #watchesofmastodon

While in Paris, I stumbled upon this watch and seized the opportunity to try this very peculiar #PatekPhilippe Calatrava. From afar it might almost look like a regular white gold one but once in hands, its weight will immediately tell another story: it is indeed one of those very rare Japan exclusive 3923A with a case made of steel. Ironically the sigma mark confirms that the dial furniture is still white gold. About 30 were made in the world. #watches #watchesofmastodon

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to play around with a #Cartier Tank Basculante 2405. Time is a bit harder to read on the anthracite dial variant. The gimmick is fun. But it is an expensive gimmick that gets old quickly and serves almost no purpose on the daily since the back is just solid flat steel. If you like this look, just buy a regular Tank. #watches #watchesofmastodon
