The employer just sent out guidance on how to handle ICE if they show up on campus. #UWM #Milwaukee

The guidance includes:

- Immediately calling the UWM Police Department at 414-229-4627 (24/7) or the UWM Office of Legal Affairs (business hours) at 414-229-4278.
- Agents are free to enter any public areas but must have a valid search warrant to enter a non-public area.
- Do not give your consent to allow an agent to enter a non-public area.
- Public areas may include reception, waiting areas and lobbies, open dining areas such as cafeterias, restrooms and other common areas accessible by members of the public without screening or escort.
- Non-public areas include private offices and laboratories; private residential rooms; classrooms, conference/meeting rooms and lecture halls that are currently in use; and other secured or restricted-access areas designated for instructional, research, or building and campus operational use.

Separately, the UWM Police Department has a set of procedures and practices it follows related to immigration enforcement. UWMPD is committed to providing exceptional service to all members of the community regardless of immigration status. The procedures include:

- UWMPD will not participate in federal immigration enforcement operations.
- Federal agents must use appropriate legal processes if they are on campus and wish to contact individuals about enforcement-related issues.

It looks like the #UWM food pantry is within spitting distance of 2000% of their $1,000 fundraising goal. They just need $2,450 more. Nice!

Chancellor Thomas Gibson is offering a challenge to #UWM faculty and staff: Raise a total of $1,000 by the end of this week, and he will match with a $1,000 gift. Visits to the UWM food pantry rose more than 41% from September to October, as the federal government shutdown cut paychecks and certain government benefits and demand is expected to spike in the coming days as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits are interrupted.

It's a good cause.

#UWM is facing calls to cut 5-10% of expenses immediately while both international enrollment and grant-funded research are plummeting. Tuition has been frozen and the state has been cutting back what they contribute to the UW system since the Walker years. There isn't any "low-hanging fruit" left. This is inevitable.

A fee equal to 24% of the net tuition revenue feels like a lot.

"The university anticipates the ReUp program will generate at least 800 term enrollments and bring back around 350 unique students who have stopped-out, Eilers said. Using these assumptions, UW-Milwaukee would pay ReUp $700,000 for marketing, recruitment and coaching services over the initial two-year period at current tuition rates, Eilers said."
