The precious few hours we spent in Ålesund were nowhere near enough. Thanks to my suddenly having to find a pharmacy, I got to see some more of the town. It's history is so fascinating as to be almost surreal (I shan't bore you, though, you'll look it up if you're so inclined but I strongly recommend going there), not least the fact that it was never a target of Germany's bombings during WW II. Miraculously, it's still there in all it's splendor.

Arches 2/3

Interior from All Saints Church, London. That a heathen like me should be so into churches -- fancy that. Mind you, I'm not disinterested in history or architecture -- nor in faith. Churches contain these and then some, so I often seek them out when travelling.

Arches 1/3

In summer, always exit from Café Bakgården (Courtyard) this way. Entering though the front door, it's not as easy to see the fabulous art nouveau (jugend) façade, but from here the architecture is hard to miss. Designed by Lars Kellman, built in 1904-05, the von Ahnska building is still quite unique for such a relatively small town like Borås. Still wonderfully cared for, today it houses several independent shops, and not least a great (dog friendly) café.
