Everyone should know that the US Dept of Education has a VERY limited role in the public schools (and very little power over what happens there). Everyone is #stressed and for good reason. For #educators this time of year adds additional stressors: mandatory #standardizedtests are upon us. Worse, it’s when the bad #budget news is shared. And it’s *always* bad. It appears my school lost #title1 despite our unchanged population. We again have to staff and schedule with a kind of creative genius those in #government would boggle at - behold as we squeeze blood from a stone! As #teachers hold it together with duct tape and #grit! #newmexico

For #newmexico, block grants instead of #title1, #title2, and #title3 funding would cripple our state’s ability to #educate #students with the highest needs - indeed any New Mexican child. Rich states get richer, #poor states get poorer. #potus #blackmailing states in order to return lawfully allocated money? Title 1 funds help support our most vulnerable students - those living in cars, those who go without food for two days over a weekend…suspending it is, frankly, evil. We are now a free meal state (thanks NM Dems) but these funds are still used for critical work. Our school funds a community support liaison, an interventionist, and PD to help teachers reach students with a background of trauma. #education #Title1 #newmexico
