My first post on Mastodon. Hi all!
I used to read one or two books annually, usually during my vacation. My want-to-read list would steadily grow, but I also wanted to spend time on other hobbies. Until I realised one day, that it only takes 20 pages daily to reach a whopping 7300 after one year! And that's how my new habit began.

Made some solid progress on the Baby Creation Screen today! 🚀
Trying to keep things clean and simple while building this in SwiftUI and SwiftData.
What do you think?
Open to any thoughts or tips!
@JeffGrigg If I'm taking #TinySteps, and writing the least-effort code to get my test to pass, then it can happen if I, say, return a constant. Gets the recently-Red test to Green, but breaks the others (not a surprise). Then I modify the code to use a field instead of a constant, and then all tests are Green.
It's a form of triangulation, and I won't always do it, but it's nice because it reassures me that I understood exactly how to get the recently-Red test to Green.
The above is Expected, however, which is different from "oh crap, I broke a bunch of tests because of some connection I was unaware of". Which means I didn't fully understand the code I'm working on. This happens more rarely, but does happen.
"if we break something, we want to know right away so we know exactly what to fix"
And that's something that isn't always promoted as a benefit of #TDD with #TinySteps: if everything was Green, and we just made that 2 line code change and now some tests are Red, well, we know exactly which lines of code are suspect!
A reminder from @RonJeffries
"We’re in this for the long game...We don’t imagine that we can do things right the first time, and...because we work to make changing easy, we don’t pay a high price for change, which lets us take small steps and learn from them."
@samreciter Na komm jetzt wird langsam das Faxgerät abgeschafft, dann machen wir das mit den Raketen. #TinySteps
For the past few weeks I have managed to stick to my goal of cycling to and from work twice a week. Mostly because I missed the bus, but hey, I'll take the win.
