OK, I've started watching #plur1bus for real, now at ep 3.

And I'm shocked to find there's apparently nothing on #TheIncomparable about it? What (unofficial) Pluribus podcast do people listen to?

📖 Annalee Newitz: Automatic Noodle

I rarely manage to actually read new books - it's quite usual that I'm at least a year behind, catching up on some award season books. This was an exception. I heard @jsnell recommend Automatic Noodle during the most recent @incomparable book club episode and just went and got it straight away. And I'm really glad I did as it was excellent!

Four robots are rebooted in a flooding restaurant that used to be their workplace but has been abandoned by the shady owners. They decide to take over the running of the restaurant themselves and start to serve proper food instead of the crap they were forced to do before.

This is the simplistic, surface level description of the book, but it's also so much more than that. It is a story about a post war world, trauma, love, independence, and survival. And it's very much a book about prejudice and who gets to be considered an individual with rights.

An absolutely fantastic read! Jason mentioned this in the podcast by saying this might be an award shortlisted book next year, and I definitely hope he is right. It would definitely deserve it.

I have only started listening now to #TheIncomparable ep. 698, about the 'Foundation' TV series.
One of those rare cases where I can say that @siracusa is completely wrong!
I read the books when I was 18, and re-read them at least 5 times. I loved the idea of psychohistory; it makes complete sense to me (in a sci-fi way of course).
I like the TV series, but I LOVED the books. The TV series doesn't do the original plot justice.

Thanks to #TheIncomparable for reminding me to go read The Golden Enclaves (third book in Naomi Novik’s Scholomance series). Novik does an amazing job of writing a transparent metaphor that instead of being eye-rolling is eye-opening. Not sure how the book’s solutions to the metaphorical threat can apply to our capitalist, racist, patriarchal real-world issues, but it’s definitely food for thought.

@ChaskaTheMagicDog I wonder if suggesting that they listen to an actual play podcast or YouTube video might help some of them? Although I am a #ttrpg gamer from way back, it did help me get into the swing of #5e when I joined a new group a while back. But I’d avoid the more famous or long-running ones. If I can plug one of my faves, look into Total Party Kill on #TheIncomparable network. Season 19 was a series of short, low-level adventures some involving brand new players.

WOW! Going from my #AirPodsPro2 *back* to my #AirPodsPro for something as simple as listening to a #TheIncomparable podcast (that I know the quality and sound characteristics of) is a HUGE difference. Way "thinner" sound. I don't hear the depth I do in my #AirPodsPro2!
