Having found a (locked) #Telstra mobile phone and being unable to find any owner contact details, do I hand it to:

Why thank you #telstra spicy autocorrect, but I think you are full of crap. I suspect that there is a closer Telstra store than Northland!

screen grab showing a chatbot suggesting that "The nearest Telstra stores to Oakleigh, VIC are:" "Northland Store: Shop B18 Northland Shopping Centre, 2-50 Murray Road, Preston VIC 3072."

TIL: Mobile Service Provider in Australien (müssen?)

Rural texting is about to get a shot in the arm, provided you're using a recent iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, or even a newly added Pixel, too. pickr.com.au/news/2025/telstra

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold (left) feels like a marginally updated version of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold (right) from last year.

If you can still find a local payphone, you can use it to call Santa, as Telstra switches on the service for the yearly event. pickr.com.au/news/2025/telstra

@backupbear the #3Gshutdown in #Australia including the #IMEI firewall is just nuts.

Also the fact that there was no testing number (i.e. 999 or 112 or 911) to verify functionality is the stupidest thing ever - ESPECHALLY IN AUSTRALIA where there's way too much dangerous shit, way too long distances in the countryside and help is way too hard to come by…

  • Shit like this is why #Germany idn't going to shut down #2G anytime soon (espechally since #eCall & #CellBroadcast rely on it!) and merely frequency allocations have been reduced instead to enshure rudimentary connectivity of #EmergencyServices...

Not shure if @BNetzA took the "New Zealand Approach" and permits shutdown of non-emergency calls in case of disasters and telling people to use #SMS for sending "pings" to loved ones as to not impede rescue efforts necessitating emergency voice calling.

I tried out #Telstra mobile on my phone for a month with their $5 addon to get coverage on my #Apple Watch Ultra. $65 for 50 gig, waste of money. Always have my watch near my phone anyway. Back to #Amaysim, $175 for the whole year and 220gig. My data is consumed when connected to Wi-Fi anyway!

Telstra has found a few phones struggle to connect to emergency with every network, meaning it's time to urgently replace those models. pickr.com.au/news/2025/telstra

@SuperMoosie yeah, it was terrible, rushed legislation. there was no way #Telstra could test which version was on each handset and whether it would use VoLTE for 000 or not.
And tbh, as the networks changed the rules I would have expected them to issue like-for-like updated models to be certain their customers could make 000 calls. But hey, I don't write the laws.
#Optus didn't even train their support people when they started blocking handsets. I spent four hours on the phone with them trying to get them to confirm why a handset was blocked.

Wow, who'd have thought the hurried bonkers legislation would be a complete mess. And good to see #Telstra taking their legal obligations seriously 11 months after they were meant to
abc.net.au/news/2025-10-22/sam
This was rubbish legislation that screwed customers' ability to choose handsets and forces others to unnecessarily upgrade.

Big claim here from Scattered LAPSUS$ Hunters, but in this case, it seems it might be a little overblown...
