2026-02-12 Plans: with the continued unpredictable rain, and needing to nap today, I only doing a containers test. Put out one of the original Catnip Ice Rinks as a new, non-frozen Catnip Whirlpool. No fine mesh, just tossed some nip in there. Probably going to also put some more catnip in odd places, see what happens.

2026-02-11 End of Day Report: not much to report for the day. As expected, the rain reduced cat visits for the day. Dr. Professor Euler didn't make an appearance at all after sunrise, showing up again near days end. Dorian found the most in the scavenger hunt as he was the only one I know jumped up on the window. Him and X22 both got in the storage container, and Euler stuck her head in there at night. No one found the stuff hidden on the second level.

2026-02-10 End of Day Report: Inspector Clouseau continues to be enigma. I was certian it was Tatarian Honeysuckle that he had sampled and enjoyed a few days ago, but he appeared completely uninterested. No rubbing, no soup, nothing. He likes to chase birds, that is pretty much the only passion of his that I know about. There are still a most of the days to test, though, so maybe something will be found.

2026-02-10 End of Day Report: Unlike everyone else, Dorian did successfully get into the box. He wasn't able to roll around, but he did stand it for a while. As mentioned, he missed the bulk of the Tatarian Honeysuckle, so he focused his efforts elsewhere for the most part. Dorian has surprised me a lot lately. I never suspected he would be the catnip in the window kitty. Euler, yes. She has many times. Dorian? A lot changes in a few months.

2026-02-10 End of Day Report: Unicode X22 also had some good rubbing against the Tatartian Honeysuckle while it was still frozen, got partially in the pool, and licked the rink. Unfortunately for my X22 testing, he mostly visited during wetter times, and was more interested in keeping dry. The Tatarian Honeysuckle tests will definitely need to be repeated for his sake.

2026-02-10 End of Day Report: As expected, Dr. Professor Euler was the biggest fan of the honeysuckle. Loved it while it was on the ice and drank it when it was soup. While it is not surprising that a cat would drink water, I brink up soup because I have noticed that Inspector Clouseau very rarely partakes in the soup. The exception being during the weekend container test, when he reacted to something. I have yet to discover what that was.

2026-02-10 End of Day Report: rain made more than a bit of a mess of things, so statistics on Tatarian Honeysuckle will have to be gathered a different day. Dorian, Dr. Professor Euler, and Unicode X22 did appear to enjoy it while it was frozen, though Dorian drew the short straw by getting there after the other 2 had rolled a good chunk off it appears.

2026-02-10 Second Interlude Preview Materials Test: preparations for one of the materials tests is complete. By lightly misting the mesh with water, it has successfully attached itself to the pan, with the catnip sticking nicely to it. Now, to test it on some kitties.

A metal pie tin with two strips of fine mesh from a window screen attached to the bottom with catnip and a few drops of water scattered on it.

2026-02-10 Second Interlude Preview: As I owe X22 a #CatnipIceRink, I will also be putting one out around 0100. This will be covered in Tatarian Honeysuckle. 2/

2026-02-10 Second Interlude Preview: due to unpredictability in the weather, I have decided to do an extended Tatarian Honeysuckle test mixed with a materials test. I have acquired a fine mesh, otherwise known as window screen, that I intend to drape across the pavement and place catnip on it/under it. Still working out the details on how best to attach. 1/

2026-02-09 #TPRM Day 2: while excellent Euler data has been gathered, it looks like Day 2 is ending early. It just started raining 3/

2026-02-09 #TPRM Day 2: As X22 averages around 1 morning visit after I put out food, I will be preparing a additional #CatnipIceRink to put out if it cools down in the evening. Day 2 will thus cover the time period of 2026-02-09T05:30 to 2026-02-10T05:30 the next day, at which point Day 3 will start. Day 2 will be testing will be Tatarian Honeysuckle. 2/

2026-02-09 #TPRM Day 2: Despite the change in predicted weather this week being 6-10 c instead of 4c, I am going ahead with Day 2 of Trash Panda Reefer Madness with some modifcations. Instead of putting out the #CatnipIceRink at 0000, I will be putting it out around 0530, or approximately the same time I put out the food for the day. I am hoping that this will get me the most cat traffic with a still solid piece of ice. This will, however, cut out a lot of X22 time. 1/

2026-02-08 #TPRM Weekend Experiment: throughout the day, I noticed that everyone(minus The Inspector) tried to find solid ice. Both Dorian and Euler attempted to stand on the melty new #CatnipIceRink, Euler slightly more successfully, and, along with X22, prodded at the other #CatnipIceRink's. No one dared to put their full weight on anything, but Dorian especially pocked his head in everything.

2026-02-08 #TPRM Weekend Experiment: Dorian and Euler seemed to really like the herb soup leftovers of the melted #CatnipIceRink. It was Euler's preferred water source for the day, with Dorian using it about half the time. The Inspector completely ignored it, and X22 mostly searched elsewhere for his fix, especially after it was mostly melted. Dorian and Euler appeared to focus on the Tatarian section, though it is unknown what the composition was by then. #SpookyKittiesSciences

Still taken from a surveillance camera showing a tuxedo cat outdoors from above drinking out of a black sheet pan filled with melting water filled with green herbs(mostly catnip).

2026-02-08 #TPRM Weekend Experiment: for what I have seen going through the footage today, it has been a great success. I will save the rest for the followup posts, but I did promise to show off the Dorian in the window. He was a bit shocked to see me open the curtains, and did jump down right after, but he didn't rush away. Not sure I will find evidence of anyone else on the window, but here's hoping! #SpookyKittiesSciences

My short haired gray tabby cat Dorian standing on the window sill looking in through the slightly dirty window outside. A hand is visible in the bottom left hand corner pulling back the left side of some blackout curtains

2026-02-08 #TPRM Weekend Experiment: because I am attempting to get back to my regular sleep after lots of doctors appointments, I will not be putting out a new #CatnipIceRink. Instead, I am leaving it out to see if they will sample it, and I doing a "find the catnip mix" game. In additional to the individual herbs/roots I bought, I also bought a combo of them all. I have placed bits around in various places, including on the window. #SpookyKittiesSciences

2026-02-07 #TPRM Weekend Experiment: well, I would say overall today's experiment was a bust, at least from cat interest side of things. It became a melty mess a tad too fast to get anything measurable. HOWEVER, everything did stay in place. Only the silver vine in the bottom right corner and the catnip in the middle got some licking from X22 and Dorian. Interestingly, The Inspector looked like he was looking for something to sniff at one point. #SpookyKittiesSciences

2026-02-07 #TPRM Weekend Experiment: in good news the #SpookyKittiesFerals(the part that matters), but bad news for #SpookyKittiesSciences department, it never dropped below 3c after midnight. The structural integrity has started looking iffy. On the other hand, everything has stayed in place, though that might not be a good thing. X22 is pretty much the only one who got to the whole while it was fully stable, and he only sniffed and licked. No rubbing

2026-02-07 Day 1 Results: As noted in the linked post, the cats a lot of time in an apparently search for what I suspect is remaining sources of catnip. It is not a new phenomenon, but yesterday was also the first day I caught Dorian in the window. None of the places they searched has had catnip/vine added for several days, some more than 1-2 weeks.
