Behind every journey on #Supertram in South #Yorkshire is the work of the Presentation Team, which maintains trams, stops, shelters and #infrastructure to keep the network safe and welcoming. Alongside routine duties, the team carries out periodic deep cleans. Recently, a Siemens tram underwent a two-day programme in the workshop, beginning with a detailed inspection and structured plan to avoid service disruption.

Specialist equipment, including new chewing gum removal machinery, was used to tackle hard-to-reach areas. Overhead panels and signage were removed and cleaned, seat bases dismantled, stair edging resealed, and floors, cab and exterior thoroughly treated.

The project brought together engineering and facilities staff, with Managing Director Sean English joining the work. It forms part of an ongoing programme to maintain standards across the 30-year-old fleet ahead of new trams expected in 2030, subject to funding, alongside wider stop refurbishments.

Public #transport fares in South #Yorkshire will be frozen from New Year’s Day 2026, with a reduction to the adult long-distance #Supertram single fare. From 1 January, all Supertram fares will remain at current levels, while the adult long-distance single will fall from £3.40 to £3, matching the national bus fare cap. Child concessionary fares will stay at £1 per journey across buses and trams. The decision, approved by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority in November, is intended to ease cost-of-living pressures and encourage greater use of public transport. The changes follow Supertram’s return to public control and form part of wider investment plans, including network upgrades, a new tram-train station at Magna and preparations for bus franchising in 2027. Child travel initiatives, including the Barnsley MiCard pilot offering free bus travel for young people, will continue to inform future regional plans.

#Supertram in South #Yorkshire has reached a milestone of 10 million passenger journeys since returning to public control, just over a year after its takeover on 22 March 2024. This achievement follows a successful trial allowing #dogs on #trams, with over 1,800 dogs onboard so far. Since public control was regained, £15.3 million has been invested to improve the network, leading to increased passenger numbers, higher revenue, and 97% tram reliability for 2024/2025. A new #Tram #Train station at #Magna is set to open in Winter 2025. The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority plans to purchase a new tram fleet by 2032, contingent on government funding. The £100 million capital improvement programme aims to further enhance the network. Mayor Oliver Coppard praised the progress and reaffirmed his commitment to a world-class public transport system for South Yorkshire. Supertram operates on 100% renewable energy, with accessible trams and stops.

A trial allowing #dogs on #trams has been launched after a public consultation in South #Yorkshire, where 75% of over 10,600 respondents supported the change. From 21 March, dogs will be allowed to travel on trams, following existing policies on buses and trains. Each passenger can bring one well-behaved dog on #Supertram. The trial's outcome will decide if the rule becomes permanent.
