Virtual reality and metaverses today have different options right now. You can have high tech graphics and best voice chat systems already. It is even possible to have all this as open source, decentralized for your home computer at home to connect with other worlds. There are in my opinion 3 very well made options to get a 64 bit high tech graphics world with real life physics and and great secure voice chat possibilities.
First I want to suggest is thirdroom, which is open source, decentralized based on Matrix. The three developers take a break but you get whole coding to develop further. You can import from Unity all mesh model stuff in 64 bit quality and the voice chat has even military security standards that works perfect as you can see in element. It is the closest to what we know in opensim. Each room is like a sim. Just high tech 64 bit with 60 fps for every computer. No need for expensive graphic cards anymore.
Second I want to suggest is Helios. It is made with newest unreal engine 5.2 and complete already. It is out of proved state and just needs content (like thirdroom too) . It could be easy to begin with best mesh stuff we have in secondlife and opensim for deco and develop further 64 bit stuff in Unity (or blender). The scripting is easy with graphic interface modules and matches to physics. Just not usable (limited) for Avatars so far. There needs to be new ideas how to solve it for real looking avatars that can be made with AI software like you get from apple for copying your own face and avi and bring in your own movements and facial expressions like in visionPro. The developers here just wait for cooperations like in thirdroom.
The third I want to suggest is starengine. It is a 64 bit seamless own star system where you can travel seamless from planet to planet (sims if you want). It is the future of gaming and can take 150 Multiplayer per server but beats everything you have ever seen in physics, graphics and possibilities. Here it is commercial gaming solution which just needs to be adapted for a VR metaverse but physics can't be beaten if you look at this video. Scripting with voxelgrid in C++ is not so different to opensim and secondlife.
