I had a delivery of some new #snowdrops today.

This one is called Gloria.
It has six equal length outer petals and no inner petals.

Classified as a Poculiform snowdrop, derived from the Latin word Poculus meaning little cup or chalice.

Gloria is magnificent in her pose and purity.

More easily available nowadays.

The clouds finally cleared at Mount Usher Gardens this afternoon. Caught these little snowdrops soaking up the rare winter sun. Nothing quite like the first blooms of the year to lift the spirits. 🌿✨

Today (or tomorrow depending on the path you follow) is #imbolc. I am going to celebrate by staring out my window at all the #snowdrops in bloom today. This year really is shaping up to be a mega year for #snowdrop flowers. It is still winter, but the signs of oncoming spring are starting to show.

For those who do not celebrate. #HappyFebruary1st. Celebrate it as you will.

A new month and another The English Garden Magazine article this time on Colesbourne Gardens one of my favourite snowdrop gardens. It meant an earl start to get the photos!

I’ve been visiting Colesbourne for as long as I’ve been garden writing and have seen it develop - I was even invited to speak at a Snowdrop Study Day. What hasn’t changed over that time is the garden’s atmosphere and ability to lift even the dullest winter day.

It marks the beginning of #spring, and in Christianity, it is the feast day of Saint Brigid, #Ireland's patroness saint.
