Right, so since it's #DefaidodonDay, here are some more #sheep we encountered on our way up #YrWyddfa/#Snowdon. Not the best sheep photography, but hopefully, the stunning scenery makes up for it? ☁️🐑☁️

The view from the summit of #YrWyddfa/#Snowdon for #MountainMonday. And suddenly, the #clouds cleared, revealing the lakes #Glaslyn – where #Excalibur was thrown in, according to Welsh folklore – and #LlynLlydaw in the background – the largest of the three #lakes on the mountain's eastern flank. 🤩 We skipped stones in both of them, tehee 😏

The scene captures two glacial lakes, Glaslyn and Llyn Llydaw, nestled within the rugged mountainous landscape below. Glaslyn, the smaller lake, is situated in the foreground, while the larger Llyn Llydaw stretches further into the valley. The lakes are surrounded by steep, grassy slopes and rocky terrain, creating a dramatic and picturesque setting. The background features additional mountain ridges, partially shrouded in mist, under a clear blue sky. The sunlight casts soft shadows across the landscape, highlighting the natural beauty and tranquillity of this iconic Welsh scenery.

A #HawthornShieldBug (possibly) for #InsektenSamstag. Spotted this little show-off on the summit cairn (!) of #YrWyddfa/#Snowdon, where it nearly got trampled. 🤨
(Also, the sun was so bright so I didn't realize the focus is a bit off, sorry 🫣)

This image shows a close-up of a green shield bug, also known as a stink bug, resting on a rough, light-coloured stone surface. The bug has a vibrant green back with some reddish-brown markings on its underside and legs. Its long, thin antennae are visible, extending forward. The shadow of the bug is clearly cast on the stone, indicating bright lighting. In the background, there is a small dead fly, adding to the natural outdoor setting. The texture of the stone surface is detailed, with various indentations.

#TrainTrackTuesday from the summit of #Snowdon (aka #YrWyddfa)! ⛰️

This is the #SnowdonMountainRailway (SMR), a narrow-gauge rack-and-pinion #mountain railway, that has been taking passengers from Llanberis to the summit since 1896 (!).

Here are some other facts you might enjoy:
- It's the only public rack-and-pinion #railway in the #UK.
- The average speed of the train is 5 mph (8 km/h).
- The total track length is 4.7 miles (7.5 km).
- It carries around 140,000 passengers each year.
- A round-trip to the summit takes approx. 2.5 hours, including a 30-minute stop at the summit visitor centre.
- From the #summit station, it's only 68 ft (21 m) to the summit cairn (though it's quite steep).
- Trains are scheduled at 30-minute intervals, subject to passenger demand.
- The SMR currently operates 3 coal-fired steam locomotives and 4 diesel locomotives. Last week, only diesel locomotives were in service, as the heritage steam locomotives typically run from June to September.
- On its official opening day in April 1896, one of the locomotives derailed and fell down the mountain, resulting in one fatality. Following this incident, the maximum allowed train weight was reduced, and a gripper system was installed on the rack railway. It's been full steam ahead ever since.

🚂🚋
(Sorry for the rabbit hole. I'm not usually into trains, but even I found it quite interesting)

An aerial view of a mountain railway track stretching into the distance. The railway is constructed on a steep, rocky mountainside, with gravel and stones reinforcing the path. The track curves gently as it ascends, disappearing into the horizon. On either side of the track, the landscape is rugged and barren, with patches of grass and shrubs clinging to the rocky terrain.

In the background, a vast expanse of clouds blankets the valleys below, creating a dramatic contrast with the clear blue sky above. The scene is serene and expansive, with a sense of solitude and adventure. A few small figures can be seen walking along the track, adding a sense of scale to the vastness of the landscape.

We climbed #Snowdon on Wednesday, and after walking through the clouds for a few hours, we were rewarded with glorious sunshine and the most amazing view from the summit! Here's a #footpath emerging from the #fog

I'm so sad we're leaving tomorrow, but it's been a wonderful break and I'm looking forward to nursing my cold at home 🤧😅

A breathtaking landscape photograph showcasing a rugged mountain ridge under a clear blue sky. The ridge, covered in patches of green vegetation and rocky terrain, slopes gently downwards. A thick blanket of white clouds fills the valley below, creating a dramatic contrast with the sharp, sunlit ridge. In the distance, faint outlines of additional mountain peaks emerge above the cloud layer. A few small figures of hikers can be seen on a narrow trail, adding a sense of scale and adventure to the scene. The overall atmosphere is serene and majestic, capturing the beauty of nature and the thrill of exploration.

#FairyTaleTuesday: `The English name for the area derives from #Snowdon, which is the highest mountain in Wales at 3560 ft (1,085 m). In #Welsh, the area is named #Eryri. A commonly held belief is that the name is derived from eryr ("eagle"), and thus means 'the abode/land of eagles', but recent evidence is that it means quite simply Highlands, and is related to the Latin oriri (to rise) as leading Welsh scholar Sir Ifor Williams proved.` #Celtic
