To frame #Grinch vs #Scrooge as a mere new-for-old replacement misses half the point of #AChristmasCarol: it’s not just a redemption story, but—like much of #Dickens’ work—also a critique of the class system.

The exact moment when #Scrooge embraces the spirit of #Christmas, renounces the spirit of capitalism, and gives Bob Crachit a raise. #HappyHolidays, Everyone!
#Scrooge Hmm, that is quite some chain!
#Scrooge Hmm, gives a whole new meaning ot the phrase go to hell! I'm glad they added this scene, it works very well.
#Scrooge This thank you very much song goes on for fifteen years! lol!
#Scrooge He's hudson of course, don't you know Hudson when you hear him, Scrooge? I do!
#Scrooge aw, aw, here is where I start sniffing. Tiny tim's song never gets old.
#Scrooge I wonder how many huge chalices full of that drink Albert Finney had to drink that day, before they got the right take!
#Scrooge Dear Kenneth Moore. Hey, can I have some of your drink? Scrooge seems to like it!
#Scrooge Happiness is standing beside me. I can see him, he can see me. My favorite number, Susanne Nimh has such a beautiful voice.
#Scrooge Aw, those cute kids in the sleighs. Aw! I wish they hadn't cast Dame Edith Evans as Christmas Past, her prissy voice is too theatrical.
#Scrooge so here I am back, Alec Guinness is inspired casting for Marley, and the vocal arrangement of the chorus in his song is incredible. How they did that I do not know. Wailling and lamenting in perfect harmony.

Found it on Tubi! (Which is good, because I cannot find my DVD copy). #Scrooge #AlastairSim
#Scrooge whenever I hear him eating that bowl of soup, I think, that bowl is in for a short life! And sure enough smash! Every time! Seriously, if I ever saw a ghost I'd be a lot more scared than he was!
IT IS TIME!
I'm working the 4pm-8pm chaplaincy shift this evening up in Bethlehem, PA, so I'm doing my annual watch of SCROOGE, the 1951 film adaptation of A Christmas Carol, right now!
Perhaps I prefer this version because it was my late Father's favorite. Perhaps it was merely all those repeated viewings that have imprinted it upon my psyche. Whatever my reason for loving this movie, I'm once again indulging in my #ChristmasEve tradition.
Most great actors who played Scrooge were hamstrung by the production. Patrick Stewart was dumbed down for Hallmark. Michael Caine had all his scenes stolen by his costars. To play Scrooge well you need to be cold-hearted, sentimental, terrified, giddy, and joyous. Albert Finney nails most of those but a singing role doesn't quite do it. Alistair Sim does them all perfectly.
