Estava conversando ontem com um amigo sobre filmes antigos em DVD e lembrei de um bem peculiar que tenho aqui: "Corra, Lola, Corra" (Lola rennt / Run Lola Run, 1998): o disco não tem rótulo, porque ele é gravado nos dois lados (dual side). No Lado A, está o filme em formato de tela Widescreen (1.85.1); no Lado B, em Fullscreen (4:3).

Fora este, acho que só tenho o "U.S. Marshals: Os Federais" (também de 1998) neste formato. São de uma época em que a maioria das TVs ainda era de tubo, num aspecto 4:3. Para que a imagem ocupasse a tela toda, o filme também teria que estar neste formato; se fosse 16:9, ficavam as famosas "faixas pretas" na parte superior e inferior da tela.

Isso gerava uma certa controvérsia entre o público leigo e o cinéfilo: os primeiros queriam maior aproveitamento da tela da TV; os segundos argumentavam que, na verdade, o filme em Fullscreen era o incompleto, pois cortava as laterais da imagem para caber no formato 4:3.

Acredito que este disco tenha sido uma boa saída para agradar gregos e troianos, desde que tivessem a ciência disso e conseguissem enxergar suas minúsculas indicações (ver imagem).

Last night in my "recording booth". Didn't realize how absolutely shitty the audio would be with my cell phone. To be fair, the amp is behind 5/8" of closed-cell foam, a couple of fleece blankets, and three pillows, so maybe it's not all the phone's fault.

Also: Nobody makes normal faces while playing guitar. NOBODY.

(if curious, the riff is from a song called "Bicycle and a Gun," about a character from the movie #RunLolaRun, so... does that make it #filk?).

Denzel and Ethan Hawke. 24hrs of action or non action can sometimes feel like an arduous task for a movie. For me, something like #RunLolaRun is an exception and this movie does well at it too. Hawke is very good and I might just be inclined to say better than the Oscar winner DW,who is very "big" on screen here.

Starring William Holden and brought from the stage to the screen by Billy Wilder. It is obvious from the set up that this was originally a play. Apart from the few outside scenes, most of the action and dialogue takes place in the barrack. Holden is good if not a bit of a caricature of a tough Army sergeant and the awful, cartoonish German officer reminded me of Schulzt from Hogan's Heroes. A war movie but not a "war" movie as the men try to find out who is ratting them out to the command.

B&W, adapted from the stage play starring Dirk Bogarde and Sir Tom Courtenay. Again, one can see like Stalag 17, how this would have played out on a stage. Directed by blacklisted Joseph Losey who used Bogarde in #TheServant (great film) the yr before in 1963 . Premise: the Great War 1917, Courtenay is an alleged deserter and Bogarde is set to represent him at the court martial. Should have maybe been called Class and Country. The acting was extremely well done and I found the movie to be quite upsetting. But I came away with having thought that I had seen a great movie.

Was waiting to be in the right frame of mind to watch this movie. That time never came. So today as I was stuck in bed with a cold and not wanting to turn on election news, I finally bit the bullet. The movie is about power and oppression and so many other themes to mention. So many recognizable faces. Jack Nicholson was amazing and it is touching to see his character bring joy and humanization to the men. Glad I watched it.

#RunLolaRun is still an amazing freakin movie

While it is an amazingly well done movie for the time, especially the stylized format and the main actress' performance, the main thing I take away from "Run Lala Run" now is how incredibly bad the motor car drivers are. The main gun isn't even close to being the most dangerous thing comparatively.
