🌞 Hello Mastodon!
I built an autonomous wealth redistribution system with anti-corporate capture mechanisms coded directly into it.
Features:
✅ Auto-redistributes 100% of funds to community needs
✅ Blocks corporate access via firewall
✅ Community direct democracy built-in
✅ Self-destructs if captured
✅ Fully open source
Earth First. People Second. Profit Never.

> Yes, but within that, a Universal Basic Income is still an important attribute of humane economies and, arguably, of all future (AI) economies.
The problem is that income can always be stolen. But if people have the right to food, shelter, power, and communication (including the internet) as basic human rights, that's not something that can be stolen. They're hungry; they go get food from their community. If a thief wants their food, what's the point? The thief can go get food themselves (they're human too), in which case THEY'RE NOT A THIEF!
And if the purported victim somehow has their food taken, they can always go get more. If someone is grossly abusing their right to food, the community can always meet democratically and decide what to do about it. They can always choose to expel the malefactor from their community; they're free to go elsewhere for their needs.
What do you think?
Agreed, except it should be running over ALL money - including the very concept of money, itself.
We'd be better off without it. But it's such a huge conceptual leap that most people can't envision it!
What would you do if you didn't have to work for a living, but were expected to use your skills or abilities to contribute towards the social good? For at least a few hours every week?
I can think of a number of things that I'd like to do:
• Cook for others
• Read to children and adults
• Build bookcases and other simple structures
• Teach basic computer skills, spreadsheets, word processing
• Edit and rewrite
• Act
• Run tabletop roleplaying games
...I'm sure there's more, but I'm not entirely used to thinking this way!
Eroding the market’s hidden hand: toward a Post-Capitalist
media system
Victor Pickard
(Communication, Culture and Critique, 2025, 18, 282–284)
"Media-related problems facing democratic societies around the world today often stem from various kinds of market failures and structural limitations endemic to all capitalist media systems. Yet, the capitalist logics at the root of these problems largely escape critical analysis in communication research. Working against such “capitalist media realism,” this article begins to interrogate these logics and provides a preliminary framework for gradually eroding them in favor of a less capitalist and more democratic media system."

#Urbánika’s #SolarPunk Bus Tour and Video Course on the #Commons
By David Bollier, July 24, 2024
Excerpt: "The course is free to access, and the bus was developed, thanks to donations by thousands of people. The course is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 license, so that it can be reproduced, remixed, and shared at no cost. In the notes section underneath each video, there are links to resources, weblinks, a self-test review of the content, and an invitation to apply one’s knowledge of commons to the real world. Schools are invited to use the videos in their teaching about commons. Social-action groups may find the videos useful in reflecting on their own organizational dynamics.
"The #PostCapitalism and the Commons video series is a follow-up to a lighter series of educational videos produced by Urbánika two years ago. This series, '#Commoning101 – Learning Pills,' (with #Spanish subtitles), is a series of amusing virtual-reality animations that introduce the commons to viewers in short gulps. The animations feature a space alien, Kin, who engages with an avatar version of me (looking twenty years younger!) in conversations about commons.
"Urbánika plans to use the videos – especially the first series, 'PostCapitalism and the Commons' – as part of an educational bus tour that will soon travel to twenty cities in seven #LatinAmerican countries.
"For this, the group has crowdfunded funds to create a state-of-the-art, climate-friendly 'SolarPunk bus.' This full-size bus has many eco-features as a rain water harvesting system, wind turbine, a rooftop biofilter (to treat gray water to make it drinkable), and dry toilet. There is a black soldier fly #biodigester for organic waste and a vertical garden for food production, among other tech features. The bus will function as a mobile school and home throughout the course of the tour, which aims to 'facilitate the emergence of neighborhoods as urban commons.' It will also encourage the use of 'open source Web 3.0 tech that can help people break free from hierarchical dependencies of the government and the markets.' "

I just had an idea for a table top role-playing campaign that I will almost certainly never run: a post-Collapse game set in the aftermath of the fall of capitalism. Players will be fighting the remains of the police and right-wing paramilitaries. Meanwhile they will be trying to survive and set up sources of food, less-contaminated water, power, communications, and build a new society.
There would be random development of cancer and other diseases from the many toxic remnants of the capitalist industrial system. Human fertility would be shockingly low thanks to microplastics and nanoplastics. Increasing climate volatility would make day-to-day survival a challenge at times.
You know, it actually sounds kind of interesting!
"Are we moving #beyondcapitalism? If so, what alternatives are we moving towards and how will they be implemented?
Blaq Swans, a group that tracks and analyzes improbable events that shake the prevailing system, adapted the #CollaborativeEconomy Honeycomb to help the #P2PFoundation begin to answer these questions. The diagrams and full article can be found on the P2P Foundation’s site #CommonsTransition.

I've been trying to sleep, but I can't stop thinking about post-capitalist society. The issues that I'm focusing on tonight are money, and crime.
It seems to be that money is more trouble than it's worth. A post-capitalist society should be one of extreme abundance, since the parasitic capitalist class will be gone.
Tracking every contribution and cost shouldn't be necessary on an individual basis; every human being should have the right to food, clean water, shelter, power, transportation, and communication - that last including internet or whatever equivalents develop.
Money can be used to track such things, and an argument can be made for something like a universal basic income (UBI) for that purpose. But money can be stolen. As I mentioned previously, a society of abundance shouldn't require chains of currency to control use and consumption. Nor will money be required as a tool of punishment and fear; the capitalists who have put it to that use will be extinct, one way or the other.
Removing money from society will remove the majority of current crime. Supplying the necessities for all will also greatly reduce addiction, since studies show clearly that addiction and much of the concomitant crime associated with addiction are the result of stress and privation. These are primarily effects of capitalism, but removing money as a factor in society will help reduce those symptoms still further.

Capitalism is failing on natural resources and human rights. The Commons Economy show another way: community ownership and democratic control of essentials.

Fascism, genocide, ecological collapse - symptoms of a system designed to fail.
We keep fighting crises, not the cause.
It’s time to confront capitalism itself.

Capitalism incentivizes those who are willing to sell out, those born with sociopathic tendencies. Those willing and eager to trample everyone around them and purge their own humanity, are rewarded. Endless greed, endless thirst for power, the total absence of values — the dominant world system rewards these traits and behaviors.
