Our neighbours are arriving to our camp.

This image holds a beautiful, daily reality for us at Orinoco Eco Camp, and a deep question that stays with us.

We have started a small school here in the heart of the Orinoco Delta. It begins with the basics: reading, writing, numbers. The goal is simple: to offer these children tools that might open doors for their future.

But this step always brings a profound dilemma to mind. By introducing our ways of learning, are we enriching their lives, or are we unavoidably starting to change a way of life that has been sustained for generations? Their knowledge of the river, the forest, and their community is immense and invaluable—a different kind of education altogether.

I come from far away, from a world built on different principles. So I am constantly asking myself: where is the line between sharing opportunity and imposing change? Is it ethical to intervene, even with the best intentions?

We are moving forward with humility and respect, but the question remains open. What are your thoughts?
