What is it about calling every new thing "great", and forgetting every older thing 5 minutes later?

A friend set up a passkey for her Nintendo Switch account with Microsoft Authenticator, which itself got deleted.

And then Microsoft went hah-hah-only-kidding and reinstated it. Meanwhile, she couldn't access her account (she'd forgotten about it, because it "just worked")

Nintendo were very helpful, but without that help she'd have lost her stuff.

I'm a geek by nature, but I was no help because I haven't fully understood passkeys.

I keep my passwords in a physical black book labelled "PHISH THIS, Y'BASSTIDS", in a drawer. Even those are in cryptic code :-)

mini rant: I hate having to email companies to find out what is in their product. Half the time they don't know themselves.

He's a alcoholic, drug addict, misogynistic, conspiracy theorist and to be quite frank, the sooner he gets bumped off in this story, the better.

I hate living in a country where they think a liveable wage is a little over $7 and a state where $15 is the minimum wage. I'm barely making $17/hr with commissions, but that's on good weeks where customers actually buy their shoes in my department. The 1st is tomorrow and I need to somehow come up with a little over $600 by the 5th or I'll have to pay an additional $50 fee because Feb is a slow month. Gods I hate it here

I get a feeling people here don't appreciate posts from #BlueSky because when I add links from that site, which have included several from Senator #ElizabethWarren, nothing, no traction. Reason I echo posts from #AaronRupar, #RobertReich, #JeffTiedrich and several others have stopped posting on the #Fediverse and their message should be shared across this important platform in the fight to save #Democracy!

Why are distribution packagers obtuse about naming library packages python3-dostuff instead of libdostuff? If there's already a libdostuff, why not either (a) call it package libdostuff-ng, if it's actually a next-gen improvemnet, or (b) libdostuff-py, if it's simply an independent implementation?
How this helps anyone outside maybe ego deficient python language developers, and them not much, I can't guess.

I mean, nobody at netlib's asking for their software to be called fortran-lapack. I hope. And if they are, don't take them seriously.

Today is my first workday on standard time and let me just say how frustrated I am.

Rest? It was okay. Woke up sleep drunk yesterday, felt pretty rested today, which is very rare because of my night owl tendencies.

But my office smart lights turned on for their sunset offset at 2:30 and they're sitting on their warm white wind-down color. The one I use to help myself not be quite so awake.

I went out to try to find some metal bits I lost with a magnet on a string at 3:30 because it's miserable out and I knew I was losing light.

I have OPINIONS about standard time vs. DST. And they all boil down to "please for the love of GOD let me see the fucking sun!" Fact of the matter is DST doesn't make people not sleep; that shit became irrelevant with electric lights.

This should probably be a full #RantOfTheMoment, but you get a #MiniRant for now.

I've got less than a week to write my Episcopal Church confirmation letter and no idea what to write.

Usually these things just come to me, I hope this is no different.

I'm not even sure what goes into one of these. My life story? My spiritual journey? What's too much, or too little?

I don't like writing about myself, I can never come up with anything that seems meaningful to me.

Then again, maybe that's the point?

Immerhin, dann war das Handy den ganzen Rest nur noch 2 mal in mein Sichtfeld, das war voll in Ordnung.
Allgemein auffällig es sind selten die jüngeren oder nicht mehr ganz jungen oder die richtig alten ;) die mit ihren Handys dauerfilmen, das seid ihr in der Mitte. Kriegt euch mal ein Smartphones gibt es schon ne Weile, 30 Minuten Videomaterial mit schlechtem Ton schaut sich niemand normales mit euch an. Macht schöne Erinnerungen damit und gut ist.

Do yourself a favor:

1. Download Firefox
2. Install AdBlock Plus or Ublock Origin, doesn't matter which
3. Supplement it with NoScript
4. Enjoy the entire Internet being usable into the thousands of windows and tabs

Firefox has Enhanced Tracking Protection on by default. This means it essentially doesn't matter if anything serves you cookies; they're blocked cross-domain, so whenever a site requests them, Firefox serves it its own cookies right back. There's even a check mark to tell sites automatically not to sell your data.

All of these are solved problems.
