Jerry the blue tongue is coming up on his 5th Gotcha Day.

This has triggered the annual Ordering of the Replacement UV-B Tube, and I've ordered some of his favourite foods and a spare basking lamp while I was at it. Meanwhile I've topped up the leaf litter layer in his enclosure, but I think I need to replace at least a couple of his plants too. The ferns down the cool end aren't quite dead yet, but they are not doing well.

Jerry himself has been antisocially hiding away for most of the past week, which I think was preparation for shedding his skin. He seems to be all done with that now, but is still just lurking in his beloved hollow log today.

Setting up this shot, I put the tape out, then put the food down, assuming Chonk would walk alongside the tape, and give me a good shot for scale. He immediately grabbed the body of the tape measure in his mouth, and we had a tug of war over it. Eventually I had to distract him with the food, and put the tape down AFTER he started eating.

I'm pretty sure that Jerry is watching the TV. He's come to the cool end of his enclosure and is just sitting there with his head raised. Intrigued by the sound and movement, I guess.

Nice to see Jerry again after 3 1/2 weeks. Even when he has his face in his food bowl he still manages to eye me suspiciously.

I saw a lizard too, which I can't completely ID either.

I'm pretty sure it's a Snake Eyed Skink from the genius Cryptoblepharus, but I'm not sure of the species.

I decided to give Jerry some enrichment with the Hol-ee Roller dog toy. The smaller holes are just the right size to wedge blueberries in, making Jerry work a bit for his mid-week treat.

Had a visit from this not-so-friendly one at work today. Managed to scoop them onto a dustpan and they hissed and did their that display all the way to the next-door bushland.

After the gorges we dropped in to the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden. Highlight for me was definitely seeing this young goanna while walking one of the short tracks.

The reptiles inside the visitor centre were pretty cool too.

I wasn't feeling great and didn't sleep well last night but I cycled to work anyway, and I'm glad I did because I spotted a couple of big water dragons basking in the morning sun on the Shrimpton's Creek Cycleway. I always like seeing lizards.

Previous experience has taught me that going for a ride even when I don't really feel like it is key to cementing the habit, and that I always enjoy it more than I think I'm going to do if I make myself ride regardless.

This is also another benefit of having an e-bike. If I am a bit tired and just don't have the legs one day I can just lean a bit more heavily on the e-assist, which is exactly what I did this morning.

Saw Jimmy again later. He was chilling next to the hotel pool until he saw another male water dragon (now known as Jeffrey) in the pool drain. That prompted him to jump down, do a display (head bob, standing tall, opening his mouth), then chase the other dragon off and take its place in the drain.

The kid has named this big boy "Jimmy". This is, apparently, His Spot, as he is frequently seen striking a pose in this exact location, near the hotel swimming pool.
