Sicily had some of the sweetest strays. Ok, it also had packs that bit cyclists and blocked pedestrians from going down some roads, but the young dogs that came looking to join a human pack were so sweet. And pre-selected survivors 😬

Wish it made sense to adopt one from there, but it doesn't and there's plenty of dogs for adoption locally.

This guy came to join the boaters BBQ one Sunday and just kinda hung around collecting morsels and scritches.

Another pair of sailors adopted one onto their boat, which I'm not sure is so great for a dog of that size, but it probably beats being eaten by other dogs or fed poisoned meat.

Am Hafen von #Licata/​#Sizilien gestalteten Künstler*innen und Aktivist*innen zusammen mit der Initiative r42 im Frühling 2024 das #Seenotrettun​gsboot #Imara. Die Bemalung des Bootes sollte den Inhalten der Seenotrettung mehr Sichtbarkeit geben und darauf aufmerksam machen, dass das #Massensterben von Geflüchteten im #Mittelmeer keine zufällige Tragödie ist. Sie ist Folge der politischen Entscheidung, die EU-Außengrenzen gewaltsam abzuschotten.

In spring 2024, artists and activists worked with the #r42 initiative to paint the Imara sea rescue boat in the harbour of #Licata, #Sicily. The painting of the boat was intended to give more visibility to the content of the sea rescue. It was intended to draw attention to the fact that the mass deaths of refugees in the Mediterranean are not an accidental tragedy, but are caused by political decisions to forcibly close the EU’s external #borders.

Dort wird SARAH mit Lebensmitteln, Medizin etc. ausgestattet. Im Juli startet die erste Rettungsmission.

Il 20 settembre del 1990, ci lasciava Rosa Balistreri, cantautrice siciliana e prima cantastorie italiana.

Rosa rivoluziona l’immagine della donna nella musica popolare italiana.

In Sicilia era molto diffusa la figura del cantastorie, ovvero di coloro che suonando la chitarra cantavano veri e propri pezzi di cronaca, fatti di sangue e di politica.

Cantavano di rabbia e di ingiustizia sociale, la carriera di Rosa inizia nel 1973, all’epoca era praticamente impossibile immaginare una donna nel ruolo di cantastorie.

Una figura come quella di Rosa Balistreri non si era mai vista, cantava in siciliano contro la mafia, denunciava le ingiustizie del mondo del lavoro, la durezza del lavoro dei contadini dei minatori e dei lavoratori a giornata. Le sue canzoni parlavano di miniere di zolfo e di campi, di carcere, di violenza sulle donne e di nostalgia per la terra lontana abbandonata. Ogni frase delle sue canzoni è un pensiero compiuto, che arriva diretto all’ascoltatore.

Franco Battiato l’ha definita “una interprete di radici talmente profonde da arrivare dall’altra parte del globo“.

Heute gegen 17.00 Uhr hat die TROTAMAR III #Licata verlassen und Kurs auf #Lampedusa genommen. Das Segelboot wird ab Sonntag das Mittelmeer zwischen Lampedusa und Tunesien absuchen und im Falle einer Sichtung die in Seenot geratenen Menschen und Boote stabilisieren sowie die italienische Küstenwache alarmieren, um dem Sterben im Mittelmeer entgegenzuwirken.

Today around 17.00 o'clock the TROTAMAR III left #Licata today and set course for #Lampedusa. The sailboat will search the Mediterranean Sea between Lampedusa and Tunisia from Sunday onwards and, in case of a sighting, stabilize the people and boats in distress as well as alert the Italian coast guard in order to counteract the deaths in the Mediterranean Sea.

Die Trainings vor dem ersten Auslaufen der TROTAMAR III gehen heute weiter. Die Crew hat sich gestern Abend entschieden, den heutigen Donnerstag noch zu nutzen um weiter Rettungszenarien durchzuproben. Dabei spielen auch kleine Dinge eine große Rolle: der Knoten am CentiFloat muss sitzen, wenn der Rettungsschlauch ins Wasser gelassen wird...

"Nicht alle bringen Segelkenntnisse mit, nur zwei haben Such- und Rettungserfahrung. Wir haben eine Awareness Person installiert, die sich um die emotionalen Bedürfnisse der Crew kümmert.
