One thing bothering us when playing videos with our little, mobile friendly video player #livi was that playing from video sites like #peeretube or #youtube showed very little information in #phosh's media player widget. This is now fixed on Livi's main branch where it fetches the necessary bits from #ytdlp to display a thumbnail and artist information making it a better companion to the pipeline app too.
We've improved a bunch of other things like faster seeking as well.

It mostly happened because I forgot to update the metainfo for 0.3.0 (which makes us look outdated on #flathub) 🤦‍♂️ . But there's one change still: livi now supports surface suspend so saves CPU cycles when the window is occluded (if the Wayland compositor supports it (#phosh will support that from 0.45. onwards).

came up in #Wayland protocols I though that it could be nicely used to stop the video stream (while keeping audio going) in this little video player I care about (#livi). Thanks for the reminder, added now: https://gitlab.gnome.org/guidog/livi/-/merge_requests/61 .Super nice that it's wired through in #gtk already too and thus easy to use.

Can't join #GUADEC (https://events.gnome.org/event/209/) this year but at least I can watch the live stream on a 📱 running a #gtk based shell (#phosh) and lots of #gnome components with a video player using GTK and #gstreamer (#livi). Life could be worse.

Note that offloading currently requires HW decoding - something I hope we can change next cycle. #livi will display a little icon in the top-left if hardware decoding and thus offloading is not used.

Whenever HW decoding and offloading works I'd expect the player to be competitive to whatever other favorite player you have performance wise.

For those of you interested in our recent video offloading / zero-copy playback work: I quickly put together some #livi #flatpak s to make it easy to test stuff already. Compositor offloading should work on all semi-recent Intel/AMD and a variety of ARM64 devices.

Here is a little explanation of getting rX from #Livi and #Lloyds #LloydsPharmacy because I found it confusing and it wasn't explained to me.

If the Livi doc prescribes you something, you'll get a message in your Livi inbox saying 'Your e-prescription confirmation'. There's NO attachment! That's on purpose. There used to be a PDF rX attached, but they don't do that any more. The pharmacy will look you up via your NHS number.

If you get meds via Lloyd's, the Livi rX does go there automatically.
