Does anyone have experience with Lumia lights, the LIFX app and the bot?
Okay, I'm all kinds of intrigued here...
I bought a replacement LIFX bulb from Bunnings this morning and set it up, packaging-wise, it's https://www.lifx.com.au/products/lifx-colour-a60-b22
According to the LIFX app, it's a "LIFX Clean" and I'm like, "what is this?'
So, is this:
* A packing mistake
* They're shipping these without the marketing claims in Australia to avoid the wrath of the ACCC/TGA et al (I'm thinking of https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/lorna-jane-pays-5-million-over-false-anti-virus-activewear-claims)
* Something else
Inquiring minds need to know 🤔

LIFX hat eine neue Deckenlampe mit Matter-Support angekündigt, die vereinzelt auch schon zum Kauf erhältlich ist. Leider aber nicht hierzulande. #lifx #applehome

Well, I've finally done it. I've acuired more smart light bulbs for the house and in the process have begun mixing brands. Only the TP-Link Tapo bulbs support #Matter, which made the initial setup very nice. My existing #LIFX bulbs never had Matter to begin with. They all integrate with #GoogleAssistant, but to get fun color scenes, I have to use their respective brand app. Also, I don't know when it happened, but #TIL my 1st gen Google Home speaker received Matter support and can act as a hub for the lights, which is neat.
#lifx #matter #applehome

So I’m looking to replace my #LifX #SmartBulbs. They’re really just not bright enough for me (being they’re A19/60W equivalent). I’ve been looking at #Cync and #Feit, which both have A21 (100W equiv) available. However I haven’t grabbed their apps yet. I’d like to know if anyone has recommendations for #SmartLighting that does NOT require a hub, has a decent app that lets you do things like schedule on/off/fade in or out possibly a nifty thing like schedule an effect to happen?
I recently switched from #Lifx to #PhilipsHue for smart lights. Lifx was sold twice since 2019 which doesn't bode well.
What I don't like about #hue is how unintuitive it can be. Example - I have 3 lights in 1 room. Let's say I have a scene to change all 3 lights. Then while it's running, I want to use a scene that changes 1 light. Since scenes are intuitively at the room level, it will turn off all lights. You have to create a zone for just the 1 light to leave the 2 unaffected.
Is anyone else having their #lifx bulbs blink occasionally? Just now both the ones in our bedroom did it sequentially. Yesterday I saw the three in the family room that were on all do it in a rolling wave. Over the last week I’ve seen the two on the front porch do it many times. Starting to get annoying.
In the case of #LIFX, they do one better: their bulbs have a 10 year warranty and if they go out before that, they will replace them free of charge.
I know this is true because they replaced two of mine after two years.
That concludes this episode of Random Smart Devices Convo.
I received the LIFX bulbs and they connected within seconds to HomeKit and Google Home. I'm trying to decide if I should try to sell the horrible Yeelight bulbs yet be forthright to the buyer. So I asked ChatGPT, "Write an ad for a private sale of a Yeelight smart lightbulb to make it sound worth buying even though the bulb is a terrible bulb, the worst I've used." Here's what it came up with:
It's been a multi-year battle with Yeelight "smart" bulbs to connect them and have them stay connected. After one bulb spontaneously disconnected and failed to reconnect after six tries, I've given up with this Chinese-made crapola. Yeelight inexplicably requires two iPhone apps and multiple tries to connect a bulb … when it works.
Since I'm not crazy about the expensive Hue bulbs either, I'm going to buy LIFX. I gave them as a gift once and the recipient loves them.
Really impressed with how well #LIFX devices work with local control. I put in firewall rules to prevent their #iot devices talking to the internet and not only do they still work seamlessly with #homeassistant, they even work with the lifx app when i'm on my home wifi network (but obviously not over the cloud when i'm on cellular)
The Homebridge (https://homebridge.io) app (running on my Synology) works really well to enable me to add my old old old LIFX bulbs (pre- HomeKit support) to my Apple Home environment. Kudos to the devs at Homebridge! #AppleHome #HomeKit #LIFX #Homebridge #interoperability #freedom #foss
Spending the day getting much of my #homeautomation stuff working in the new place, namely my #LIFX bulbs, my HomePod mini, and Apple TV, and eventually the #IKEA #TRÅDFRI bulbs. Home Automation still takes a while to set up, even for (what I think) tech savvy people like myself… 🤔
