I had the chance to see the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, led by Conductor Monica Chen, perform four suites of Joe Hisaishi's music for Studio Ghibli. It was so much fun, and the music, of course, was brilliant. I grabbed a photo before the show. The Totoro seated behind the conductor's platform belongs to the conductor's family. She also dressed up as Kiki, complete with broom! Loved it!

The middle of the stage where orchestra musicians are beginning to tune up. On a stool behind the conductor's platform (and therefore between the platform and the audience) is a well-loved Totoro backpack. In front of one of the violinist, a small, crocheted Totoro is also visible.

More #KikisDeliveryService color correction using the vocal collection album cover as a guide. I'm going to use this to fill out a #PLEX cover set. This Ghibli project has been massive and time consuming and will result in 7 sets in Japanese and English when it's all done.

Did some color correction to relax before going to bed. It’s basically a puzzle with a certain direction but no single right answer.

A before and after of a Kiki's Delivery Service theatrical poster that has been color corrected

Finished reading Kiki's Delivery Service. It's a completely different experience from Hayao Miyazaki's film adaptation, but each version is charming on its own merits.

The beginning of the story is nearly the same in both versions, but after that, they each take their own path. Eiko Kadono's original novel is more of a collection of vignettes in Kiki's life, with most of the scenes not even found in the Ghibli film. Miyazaki took some moments and characters from the book and reworked them into a completely new story, with many things not found in the novel.

I am now curious, though, if there are any easter eggs referencing unused parts of the book in the film. I'll have to look carefully the next time I watch it!

Anyway, if you like Miyazaki's Kiki's Delivery Service (it's still my favorite Ghibli film, now having read the original), check out the original book if you want to see how Kiki deals with a bunch of other things not seen in the film!

Almost halfway through reading Kiki's Delivery Service, and already it's interesting to see what Hayao Miyazaki kept, changed, reworked, omitted, and added for his film adaptation of it. Jiji is still a wisecracker, though!

Let's see if finally starting the original novel of Kiki's Delivery Service by Eiko Kadono can spark my motivation. It is the source material for my favorite Ghibli film, after all.

A successful day raiding the clearance section of Box Lunch today! Being 'buy one get one free' right now made it a double victory.

Got a Kiki's Delivery Service tapestry I've had my eye on ever since I first saw it for all of US$12. (Original price US$50.) It's a massive 4x5 feet in size, and I have no idea how I'm actually going to display it.

Also got a Sailor Moon winter cap with Luna and Artemis on it. It claims to be kids size, but I tried it on and it fits me! So, why not? :sailormoonpeace:
