Voodoo Session by Tubby Hayes, released on Trunk Records in 2009.

Bonkers one this. A few years ago there was single from the film Dr Terror's House Of Horror that lots of people wanted. It was issued by CBS. Lots of people wanted it all because they all thought it was this bit of music, from the scene where Roy Castle and the Tubby Hayes Quintet play the Voodoo track. Now taken down from YouTube unfortunately.

However, when one copy of this rare single surfaced (and sold later for about £800 a week before it was bootlegged) everyone realised it was a bit crap, and had Roy Castle singing on it, when all anyone really wanted was the instrumental afro voodoo number... - Johnny Trunk

Tam... Tam... Tam...! by José Prates, released on Polydor in 1958.

This little LP began in 1958. It was part of a global touring show called “Brasiliana” put together by Polish producer Miecio Askanasy. A couple of LPs were made by the cast members, and this is one of them. It is a rare beast. So rare that even Gilles Peterson, a super fan of rare Brazilian music has not got one. So he put out a plea in Record Collector for someone to issue it. It was a fascinating page of information, stating that this LP was a cornerstone of contemporary Brazilian sound, the roots of it all, and was essential listening. The music was written by a man called José Prates, a man who few people knew about, But whose influences should be studied. I read this and immediately got in contact with Ed Motta, a musician and collector in Brazil.. - Johnny Trunk
