Domestic duties completed.

New blind installed in Nicole’s Office.
New light/fan switch ordered.

Sidenote. Fuck dimmers. If you need ‘atmosphere’ light a candle.
I’m sure there are legit uses but finding switches that aren’t dimmers is getting harder and harder.

It has warmed up enough in the sun (at 16F) that all the ice that accumulated on the bottom side of my roof is dropping off, making a steady pattering noise in my office.

This is due to moisture getting into the attic (and condensing on the roofing nails). It's vented, which helps, but we haven't had somebody take a look if there is a source of air leakage from the house. My _guess_ would be one of the primary culprits is the attic access, also in my office. Or, the vents might be blocked by cruft (or ice!)

Donald Trump made promises that he would increase affordability for Americans, but in a Cabinet meeting today, he seemed to suggest the opposite. Of current homeowners, he said: "We're not gonna destroy the value of their homes so that somebody who didn't work very hard can buy a home." Here's the full story from @people.

I know I said a couple of days ago I was staying off the "Internet" and I have succeeded, but in my mind #Mastodon is not the Internet, far from it. It is my safe/happy place. So I am still here.

And here is today's #GoodNews from the casa:

Old spark arrestor screen on my wood stove chimney pipe was rotted and clogged. Could not find a suitable replacement, so I bought $6 worth of bulk screen and made my own.

Note the "not FAA approved" safety wire.

The morning after “Storm Chandra” in the UK. If there was ever a test of chimneys and roofs then 30-50mm of rainfall and 45mpg gusts will do it.

Our rear chimney that was leaking and had further repairs done appears to have survived the night intact. That’s the good news I guess.

Sadly our front chimney we thought was fixed started to drip around 1am. Just what we needed when we both have extremely busy workdays ahead of us!

Home ownership is half blessing and half curse I swear. 😔

In another win for WikiHow, I have just removed a busted venetian blind from the front bedroom without needing to curse even once. Removing a busted thing, without replacing it with a fixed thing yet, looks so much better!

I've also used it for how to fix my shower door and how to remove the plug from my bath to get the ick out of the drain.
