I just had an argument on Facebook about that we can learn about history by statues.

He was right to an extend you can learn from statues but not the same way that he thought.

You learn about the perception that the people who erected the statue had about the historical event/figure and also the ruling class of a society who still allows the statue to be there but not much about the actual event.

It's the same for all media about historic events.
