New heart rate monitor
I'm a stickler for data and that's why I record my heart rate on my rides. For the longest time I've been using wahoo TICKR straps. I liked the concept of having the sensor close the strap with snap buttons. Unfortunately every single one of them broke. The first basic TICKR I got replaced under warranty. When that one broke eventually, I got a voucher which I used to buy the TICKR run. When that one broke I opted for Wahoo's top model the TICKR X. That one lasted 3 days! The latches one the battery cover disintegrated (which seemed to be a common problem). The warping of the housing from detaching the strap was apparently enough to have caused this.
I got my money back and looked to Garmin instead and I chose the premium HRM-Pro Plus model. Despite being advertised as usable for swimming, I found moisture (from sweat) inside after it showed some erratic measurements. Letting it air out solved the glitching, but now, 2 1/2 years after I bought it, it is dead. None of the heart rate monitors above lasted more than 3 years. The Garmin at least had very good battery economy.
Now I bought the Coros heart rate monitor, which uses an optical system, like wrist worn HRMs. It comes with a 38h battery life and then it has to be recharged. Standby time will probably eat into that. As there is not battery hatch it is water resistant up to 30m. It can simultaneously connect to three different devices but only via Bluetooth, no ANT+ on board. What's also different is, that you wear it on the upper arm instead on the chest (people wearing a bra take note) and the actual strap comes in different colours, like this lively lime green.
