Last Wednesday week Their Excellencies the Governor-General and Lady Fergusson, invited the inmates of the Home for the Aged Needy to an afternoon in the grounds of Government House. Their Excellencies, Miss Fergusson, and the staff entertained the old people at tea in the ballroom, and a concert was given by Lady Fergusson, Miss Fergusson, and the members of the staff. The old people thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and went away very grateful to Their Excellencies for their thoughtfulness and the kindnesses extended to them at Government House.
The trustees also received a letter from Mrs. W. F. Massey on behalf of herself and the Prime Minister, forwarding a cheque for £30 [ca. $3,700 today] as a donation from Scottish friends who have been visiting New Zealand, as an appreciation of the kindness received by them in the Dominion.
The trustees resolved to express and convey to Their Excellencies and the donors their hearty thanks and appreciation of their kindly interest in, and practical support of, the institution.
