Primero, debe leer este mensaje en su totalidad. Luego debe borrar el contenido de su disco duro! Luego debe enviar este mensaje a otras diez personas, agregando su nombre a la lista a continuación. ¡Espere ganar un millón de dólares dentro de un mes!» Y terminaba: «Esto no es un virus. Borre su disco duro AHORA».»

«Las estrategias de estas antileyendas se acercan a lo que esperarían los biólogos: distorsionan el original al adjuntarle información de otras tramas reconocidas como inofensivas. Por lo tanto, la información original se reconoce como absurda y el presentador responde con cachondeo en lugar de preocupación. Curiosamente, el psicólogo William Sargent encontró dos estrategias efectivas contra el lavado de cerebro. Una era la aceptación previa de una doctrina religiosa extrema como la de los testigos de Jehová, pero la otra era «la distracción controlada y continua por parte del sujeto ante los esfuerzos que estaban haciendo para ganárselo».
