Correction: Enafore's UI for filters is kinda b0rken. Phanpy works, though! ;)

After setting up mastodon, I became aware of #GoToSocial . Searching for something which can help me migrate my mastodon to #gts ...

I've noticed that if I share or like a number of posts in quick succession, my GoToSocial instance gets more and more delayed in sending them out.

Is this more likely to be an issue with my VPS provider, or with GtS itself?

For anyone running a #gotosocial single user instance: GTS-HolMirDas (German for "get me that" or "fetch me that") might be interesting to you, if you want to fill your timeline with life. It fetches posts matching to hashtags you've set from the fediverse. For single-user instances this is great to see more new people and posts you otherwise never would have discovered.

Creating an app via the GTS settings panel did not work for me. But this did and it was really easy:

This may be a super common and known app, but I just installed it and I think it's great.

So wait a minute: running this Mastodon account on my own server would possibly subject me to the absurd and unrealistic expectations of the UK's so-called "Online Safety Act" which is ushering swathes of unsuspecting people back towards Big Tech...but if I chose to #SelfHost by getting my head around, say, #GoToSocial - #GTS - that's obviously geared to one sole self-hosting user so would spare me the dutiful bureaucrats ever knocking on my door while putting me in control of my own account? Interesting.

🚀 Umzug geglückt: Mein GoToSocial Server ist live!

Pünktlich zum zweiten Weihnachtsfeiertag (26.12.) habe ich den Schritt gewagt und meine eigene GoToSocial Instanz aufgesetzt. Nach einer kurzen Testphase bin ich bereits am 28.12. mit meinem Account komplett von hessen.social auf social.guddl.net umgezogen. 📦

Hier ein paar technische Insights nach den ersten 7 Tagen im Betrieb:

• Setup: GoToSocial läuft im rootless-podman Container.
• Performance: Läuft bisher absolut stabil und ohne Probleme.
• Client: Unter iOS/macOS nutze ich Mona, was hervorragend mit der Instanz harmoniert.
• Speicherhunger:
• Die SQLite-Datenbank liegt aktuell bei ca. 200 MB.
• Der Gesamtspeicher (inkl. Medien) belegt ca. 9 GB, wobei ich das Media-Caching auf 5 Tage begrenzt habe.

Was steht als Nächstes an? 🛠️

Da man als Single-User-Instanz am Anfang etwas "einsam" im Hinblick auf Hashtags ist, werde ich als Nächstes einen Hashtag Importer ausprobieren. Außerdem steht noch der Import meiner alten Posts von hessen.social auf der To-Do-Liste.

Bisher bin ich super zufrieden mit der Leichtfüßigkeit von GoToSocial! 🐧✨

If you are on a @gotosocial instance and use an iPhone, what app are you using? I used to use Metatext but it seems development had stopped a few years ago. I think the maintainer was experiencing some health issues and had to back away for a while. I absolutely love the app but, recently, I started experiencing some issues. I keep trying different apps but they just don't do a great job of supporting GoToSocial. Or, at least, I can't get the apps to support GoToSocial.
