@technomancy it's so fast I can't even notice any loading times even on narrowband.
Consider something like @ActionRetro 's #FrogFind:

@jupiter that would be cool.
Would be an interesting thing for @clew, @monocles and/or @ActionRetro (#FrogFind) to collab on…
@nina_kali_nina @nixCraft I can recommend a few more:

Ho! Ho! Ho!
Merry Christmas, Retro Enthusiasts!
I took a few minutes today to look at the Frogfind search terms over the last month and have been a bit surprised - original #3 was "NUL", so I amended the script right away :).
Anyhow, this is how it looks like ... not too specific for the majority, which is kind of a bummer ... further down the list there a lot of specific requests regarding our hobby, though.
Uh ... Montana?!? Why on earth :).
Side remark: if I would group all hacking attempts in one row they also would be in the Top 10 ...
@Viss @jplebreton agreed...
The amount of #Bloatware is just absurd these days.
What we need is a #LightWeightWeb that refuses all that #Bloat and #Junk.
Something like #FrogFind by @ActionRetro, but instead of a #WebProxy just good #Websites that provide said information without demanding literal megabytes in bloat!
I updated ff.de this weekend to counter DuckDuckGo-throttling. (If I did get it right, Sean is having some paid DDG for ff.com?)
If the DDG quota is drained, it will switch to Brave - if Brave is drained, too, it will switch too Google. (Both the free tiers of course :).
@dardarbinx @kagihq well, consider @monocles / #monoclesSearch, @clew / #clew and #FrogFind by @ActionRetro ...
I'd consider this project if the costs of running it get ROI'd by donations.
Also I'm not shure how fast this would escalate. Maybe @ActionRetro has numbers re: the costs of running #FrogFind from which I can extrapolate a worst-case scenario (granted I don't intend to host a copy of FrogFind!)
Nothing fancy, just a basic site - like #FrogFind (made by @ActionRetro):
Espechally since FrogFind gets hammered by "#AI" #bots who abuse it to circumvent blockages and because some folks may just want to have a proper, curated catalog instead, because #Enshittification is so rampant that #SearchResults these days are useless unless you know the topic well enough to go !trustworthysite.example "example search term" instead of just "example search term"...
:boost_ok: Q: Should I do some smol #website on @torproject / #Tor network that'll be a good starting page?
OFC I'd also consider putting the same site on the #SurfaceWeb as well, making shure it's brutally simple and will just work with #CLI / #TUI #browsers like #Lynx / #LynxBrowser...
There needs to be more #accessible services that just work, cuz for those stuck on #barrowband and/or #CLI using tools like #FrogFind is the only option…

@SimpleProgrammer well, #JavaScript does artifically make #Websites slower and require unnecessary amounts of resources.
Anywhere else we'd not accept that #bloat [except with #Windows and #MicrosoftOffice but I'm not gonna deal with digital zombie - malware] but with the #Web it's okay to do so.
Sorry if I'm ranting, but the fact that 2007 slower mobile internet (or even WAP) in #Germany aka. #EDGEland felt faster than modern web on a 128x faster machine that has 1024x bandwith than is not excuseable!
ok I just found #frogfind and it is what I was looking for years, search engine that converts websites into pure html 😍
@itnewsbot #FrogFind on #WAP? noice!
@ActionRetro You may be pleased to know that FrogFind runs splendidly in the Links browser on GNU/Hurd.

https://github.com/ActionRetro/FrogFind/issues/31#issuecomment-2651950833
Et là, ben, ça remarche !
Purée… 🤦
