An Audubon Photography Award winner, and no wonder: how often do you manage to capture a Golden-Crowned Kinglet whose crown is floofing? ๐Ÿคฃ ๐Ÿ’› ๐Ÿงก ๐Ÿค ๐Ÿ–ค ๐Ÿ’š ๐Ÿ‘‘

A Golden-Crowned Kinglet perches on a feathery branch. This small round bird has a back of olive green, a tan breast shading up to a white face streaked with black, and big black eyes. Usually, the crown is yellow with a thin line of orange running from front to back, but this photographer caught something amazing: the orange portion of the crown is voluminous and floofing straight up, sitting on top of the head like a real crown.

This Audubon Photography Award winner was taken by Jacob McGinnis.

A little black-capped chickadee sits on the tip of a small branch. Its body is facing forward, but its head is tipped sideways onto its shoulder as though to avoid the gaze of the photographer.

The photographer is Lesley the Bird Nerd, who lives in Canada.
