Currently progressing a bit further through the #optout project, I'm now looking to go haywire with email masks, but I'm struggling to choose between Firefox Relay and DuckDuckGo Email Protection. In terms of features and ease of use, Firefox Relay seems nicer, but I'm not sure how much I still trust Mozilla, both in terms of "integrity" and "not shutting down the product in the near future"
Also, just noticed that Firefox Relay has a waitlist... uh...
FYI, npmjs blocks new accounts from using mozmail (Firefox relay) as an email address. Luckily, they don't block you from changing your email to mozmail, once you register.
Which email alias service do you use?

@rufposten @kuketzblog super spannendes Projekt! #FirefoxRelay #mozilla #OPSEC

Given #mozilla now-ambiguous statements about privacy, what do we think about using #firefox Relay for email masking/alias?
Relay is a part of my ongoing effort to tighten up email security as I de-Google my online life. I like that Relay is free since I'm trying a bunch of new stuff and may not like it.
Otherwise my only loyalty to it is that I've already invested the time to set up the masks and forwarding, NBD.
Has anyone here had success creating a Google Account via a #FirefoxRelay address?
As soon as I enter my password, I get an error "your account couldn't be created" with no further explanation.
I tried that in three different browsers, two different OS's, with and without VPN... choosing a different mail address worked though -.-
@avoidthehack Please consider adding #FirefoxRelay as well.
@james I tried just yesterday to register an account on a site that uses HCaptcha. I use a screen reader on Windows and Firefox as my browser. It was completely unusable. It asked me for an 'accessibility cookie' that requires to give them a 'real email' address, refusing to accept my Firefox Relay alias. After caving in and giving them an address that i had given them a few years back and getting my accessibility cookie, the bloody captcha refused to recognise the cookie. Checking their support pages and tinkering with Firefox settings, none of which worked, I gave up and had to wait for a housemate to arrive after her work to help me solve the captcha.
TL DR: HCaptcha's accessibility sucks, full stop.

@xylya@mastodon.uno @usamainsights Agreed. I did the same using #FirefoxRelay Haven't got any spam yet in the new inbox since 2 years.

#FirefoxRelay is pretty good.
First time I saw its description, I was concerned about the vague use of "alias" because it didn't really say anything about how it behaves. It would be more accurate to call those "relay email accounts".
Looking at this image (in Portuguese) made more sense: https://diolinux.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/image.jpeg
You sign in to some website using a generated email account, add a password, and when the website wants to verify your email, they send it to the generated email, which then relays it to you without trackers, hence the name.
You can manage each of the multiple relays you want on relay.firefox.com or with the extension, blocking the relay if the website starts sending spam.
The website then knows nothing about your true email address, yet you can act on their emails just fine.
This is very handy especially if you use the #Firefox feature that lets you generate secure passwords.
@dottorblaster, I do have a custom domain just because it's fun, but no one ever sees it because I'm a heavy user of #FirefoxRelay. Fastmail has a similar service, but it's not as seamless as Mozilla's.
Im tempted to subscribe to #FirefoxRelay but my gut tells me that many sites will block the use of it, and I'm unwilling to spend money and time finding that out.
