I have been inside the last couple of days due to weather, and misbehaving kit. One compensation is the view outside the "lab" window ..

A large crescent shaped snowdrift is lit by low angle sun with jagged rocks on the ground. In the distance, a snow covered glacier with a rising nunatak of black rock and flowing glaciers on the horizon under dramatic clouds. The same view framed by the window with an ice core in a plastic tube to one side.

The Polar might is drawing in, the neighbouring nunatak
Ploegen, with the sun almost setting behind it.

Farewell site RF1, for now. A total of 54 metres of ice, cored and processed. Then time to head home before the weather comes in, with a quick coffee stop to admire the wildlife: incredibly small lichens that somehow hang on at the nunatak Fossilrygen.

IceClimate@pixelfed.social - Wasa station. After a morning of safety training and snow scooter training, we unpacked and I took our snow optical sensors for a walk to test the surface snow grain sizes. All present and correct.
A good view from the moraine over the station and the vast whiteness of the #iceSheet beyond.

The best view from any chemistry lab in the world? Clément has spent most of the afternoon setting up LISA, tomorrow we'll run a test core through to test she's working... (Meet LISA here: http://sternaparadisaea.net/2025/09/30/meeting-lisa/)
