Over on my blog, @vextaur I've done MLP story reviews, and lets try one here and see if'n Markdown can make it look good. For today, we're doing two stories we don't like, because it makes little point only being a cheerleader, right?
First off, The White-Tail Affair.

Honestly I hate to dislike this one, because the supporting cast is actually interesting and fun, Blueblood is… Odd, and I'm curious what's going on with him. Raven, even weirder, and Goody Two-Shoes the pegasus lawyer is fun… Unfortunately our main character Eterna Blossom is just a train wreck that drags the story down which really sucks with so many interesting and/or good characters running around.
What's the story about?
Well so far a diplomatic mission with the deer that live near the Everfree. So far because we've had a glimpse of a future where they're studying what went wrong I think, plus there's plenty of references to Eterna's family history which is tied to Nightmare Moon and the Everfree Forest. Seriously, I find myself being pretty sure there's a lot going on that I have figured out yet, but that's not a bad thing. Really its a shame about this one.
So what's the second one?
Leather & Lace.

This is another potential squandered by a basically unlikable lead. Seriously, we have a person who's pulled into Friendship is Magic (My Little Pony generation 4) from the 80's via magic. Suspending disbelief that Twilight could do this without Celestia noticing, this is an interesting idea because typically human in Equestria stories are just that, or the human died and is reborn and is familiar with G4, but here the character is only vaguely aware of My Little Pony and that would be the first cartoon version, along with being converted into a pony when he was pulled in. Problem is that Andy isn't very likeable, survivor of an abusive childhood that ran off to CA to become a rock star, alcoholic and a drug user. This character sabotages himself at every opportunity, and while I'm glad there's no miracle cures in this Equestria, there doesn't seem to be any cures or help available. Because of this, things never really move forward, 7 chapters in, and really nothing has changed, things have happened, but nothing has really changed.
Seriously, the fact that I gave up on both of these is telling, I can put up with characters, settings or versions of Equestria that aren't entirely likeable, I mean I'm still reading Ascension, Abdication or Abduction, a story that I can say has its moments, the good parts out number the bad, but it definitely has issues.
Both of these though?
Yeah, definitely thumbs down, don't waste your time.

Un altro singolo che poi ho apprezzato è stato Gauntlet of Fire, che appare poco più tardi. Non ho trovato molto altro nelle stagioni successive, ma ho visto solo qualche episodio sfuso e nient'altro.
Il punto di rottura per me è il 99 "The lost treasure of Griffonstone", da li in poi non ha più lo "charme" e stile che per me lo facevano davvero funzionare, se non pure fare decisioni discutibili, per diversi motivi, come nelle stagioni 8 e 9; ho visto solo episodi singoli che mi potessero interessare.
Fino almeno al 99 episodio la media degli episodi è abbastanza divertente poi dal sesto anno in poi lasciai di seguirla perché l'umorismo di fondo aveva perso molto la sua immediatezza come all'inizio, che per me era davvero il traino che la faceva funzionare, passando invece a premere su archi narrativi che non hanno mai funzionato così come li hanno messi; è una serie che funziona quando è una commedia, non altro. Da li ho solo visto alcuni episodi singoli.
Su #FiM in sè cosa direi dopo un decennio? Si era fatto notare per aver ripreso lo stile della animazione americana anni 80 e la modernizza, una rottura col periodo dove l'animazione cercava di essere più "complicata" come narrazione, per quello che ricordo. Nonostante abbia i suoi alti e bassi, specialmente dopo la prima stagione, almeno i primi anni il suo successo era meritato. Oggi gli episodi sono gratuiti su internet, eccone alcuni carini.
A questi non interessa l'argomento.
Cercano solo se c'è pubblico.
Vogliono solo che ci sia attenzione.
Saltano da un posto all'altro non appena si accorgono che c'è l'occasione di prendere della popolarità e usarla per avere carta bianca per il peggio del peggio.
E questo naturalmente a danno di chiunque e qualcosa che gli venga a contatto.
Quello o quell'altro fandom, sono solo dettagli e circostanze.
Tutti questi soggetti che danno scandalo sono accumunati dal narcisismo, aver qualcuno di cui poter abusare, o entrambe. Senza un pubblico non possono fare niente, non sono nessuno.
Pertanto, li troverete sempre in tutti i fandom dove la popolarità è garantita senza troppo sforzo, sopra quelle cose che fanno da moda del momento e sotto gli occhi di tutti.
Il problema, quello vero, sta in Internet stesso dell'era dei Social. Dove hai popolarità senza fare nessun sforzo, ci fanno sempre tana i parassiti.
FiM ha avuto questo momento di essere la moda per qualche anno che dava popolarità a secchi. Oggigiorno invece è il turno di Undertale, Five Nights to Freddy, Hazbin Hotel, e in buona parte resta ancora vero anche per Pokemon, Furry, e quant'altro che non mi viene in mente.
