#EmailEncryption

Which email service (not self hosted for 2 reasons, effort, and deny-listing) do you recommend for own domain addresses, that has IMAP access and is not US nor EU/UK (not crazy about Russia either, but perhaps distributing my data over different dictatorships is not the worst idea, they will never work together to get the full picture)?

I currently use Zoho, the free one, no IMAP, just web mail, no PGP, so I encrypt a text file with what I would normally write in the email body and attach, but that makes communication with non-IT people difficult. Now I want something I can simply use in Thunderbird and I am willing to pay.

What is S/MIME and how does it contribute to email security?

The email correspondence of more than 4.5 billion users worldwide is exposed to attacks every day. This makes reliable encryption and digital signature solutions all the more important.

Find out how you can protect your email communication with S/MIME, ensure the authenticity of your correspondence and use S/MIME with mailbox: mailbox.org/en/blog/smime-encr

S/MIME: End-to-end encryption and digital signature of emailsWhat is S/MIME? S/MIME stands for Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions. It is an internationally recognised standard for email encryption and digital signature of emails. S/MIME is based on public key encryption, also known as asymmetric encryption. S/MIME uses certificates from trusted certificate authorities.3 essential security features: Confidentiality through email encryption, integrity through digital signatures, authenticity and email authentication. Why is S/MIME so attractive? S/MIME meets high data protection requirements, provides legal certainty through trusted certification authorities and is supported by mailbox and most other email clients. ๐Ÿ” Every unencrypted email is readable by 10+ entities and stored forever.

Web Key Directory (WKD) changes this: automatic encryption using your domain name. No manual keys. No central servers. Just cryptographic certainty.

WKD makes encrypted email as simple as HTTPS made web browsing secure.

Important Update in Email Security

Google has just announced a new End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) feature for Gmail business users, making it easier to send encrypted emails to any recipient.

With this update, businesses can now send fully encrypted emails to anyone, regardless of the email service they use, without having to worry about the complexities of certificates. While businesses can still configure the S/MIME protocol for digitally signed and encrypted messages, the new Gmail model offers a much simpler and more accessible solution.

Key Benefits:

Encryption is easily activated, requiring minimal setup and effort for both IT teams and end users.

The solution ensures better control over data security and privacy.

Fully compatible with any Gmail user, whether business or personal, enabling secure email communication across platforms.

For recipients who donโ€™t use Gmail, they will receive a link to view the email securely, without needing a Google account.

This feature is powered by Client-Side Encryption (CSE), which allows businesses to manage their own encryption keys, ensuring that data is encrypted before being sent to Googleโ€™s servers. This method is crucial for meeting regulatory requirements such as HIPAA, data sovereignty, and other compliance standards.

CSE has been available to select Google Workspace customers since 2023 and is now expanding to Gmail on the web. By the end of this year, any Gmail user will be able to send and receive end-to-end encrypted emails.

With this update, Gmail is better equipped to ensure privacy and security in business communications.

On a continuous effort to move away from Big Tech and transition to platforms and services that value privacy, I just made a new email account at @Tutanota
Their fundamental principles of no tracking, no data scanning, encryption, and privacy by design are much appreciated.
Thank you team at Tuta for your efforts!

I wish I could afford @protonmail to take full advantage of it, but I love that they offer everyone 1 free #VPN connection.

I just downloaded #ProtonVPN and already use a few free mail addresses.

I'd really like to use it for anonymous/private file sharing too.
