Un nouvel parmi mes préférés : l'#Edixa-Mat D ! Il permet de photographier à hauteur de poitrine avec un viseur particulièrement clair !

Last of the photos for now: in the same auction, I also got this Yashica-Mat for an absolute bargain. Optically, it's in good shape, but I found out mid-test roll that the shutter was hanging open at 1/2 a second. I tried exercising it, and now it hangs open at anything below 1/60. Urgh.

But at least it looks pretty.

One thing about the design of the Edixa-Flex (should that be hyphenated? I still can't make my mind up) - mastodon.social/@coldkennels/1 - is that the combination of waist level finder and front-mounted shutter release actually works in its favour for stability.

This was shot at 1/25 with a 50mm lens; I wouldn't even consider that with a regular SLR, but this is surprisingly shake-free.

A black and white photo of a dock/bridge over a lake. Two boys are stood on it, three or four metres apart from each other, facing away from the camera and fishing into the lake.

The one downside of SLRs with waist level finders: trying to compose a vertical shot is hilarious.

I wish I had a photo of me trying to get this level while stood side-on to the subject and twisting the camera every which way, but I'm actually somewhat impressed that I managed to get there in the end.

A black and white photo of a strange dome-topped building in a local park. It holds a statue inside; I'm sure there's a proper name for this sort of folly, but I'm nowhere near posh enough to know what it is.

One benefit of SLRs with waist level finders: it's much easier to do low-level tripod work. Or just tripod work in general, really.

(And yes, I know right angle attachments exist. I used to own one for my old Pentax KX... but they're not as good as a proper WLF.)

Last week I obtained an Edixa Flex (mastodon.social/@coldkennels/1), which went against my lifelong hatred of SLRs and my refusal to use them unless absolutely necessary.

A test roll revealed that a) it works fully - even both types of flash sync, b) the 50mm Cassar is far from the sharpest lens ever, but perfectly pleasant, and c) I am still terrible at focusing with an SLR.

But it's fun!

A slightly glowy black and white photo of the sun reflecting off a lake at sunset. There's a small (i.e. low) fence at the edge of the bank on the left hand side of the frame, and a mostly-silhouetted tree overhanging the lake from the bank on the right. The relatively basic triplet design of the Steinheil München Cassar is handling the sun well - there's not a lot of flare, all things considered.

And I am interested in (analog) photography.
