I have a #copyright question related to #dissertations: say a student works at a US federally-run museum and has been given dispensation to write their dissertation related to its holdings, but the institution says it is work-for-hire so the author won’t retain copyright. My sense is that this is because it’s a federal employer.
What are the chances they’d be able to negotiate an agreement that gives the author copyright?They are concerned about future publishing opportunities, etc. #libraries #etds
