#Coops

Les cooperatives i l'Economia Social tenim un gran poder de canvi: més igualtat, més democràcia, més sostenibilitat, més justícia...

Dijous 18.30 h aquesta taula rodona a #Inca fa bona pinta. Jo hi aniré. M'acompanyes?

Standard finance treats cooperative returns as 'costs.' It’s a data error.

My consolidated Sovereignty Audit reclassifies 'Mutual Surplus' as Tier 1 Capital for Solvency II and identifies 'Trojan Horse' clauses in Private Equity deals. Words – and definitions – are the only thing standing between your mission and demutualisation.

@light is an actually existing system characterized by a certain set of property relations between the employer and labor. These property relations violate the principle behind private property of getting the positive and negative fruits of one’s labor. Capitalism must be abolished in favor of economic , a system where all firms are structured as democratic worker .

The Root & Branch Library has been updated with 4 new structural audits. 🏛️

We are moving beyond translation into forensic analysis:

- Why 'Retained Surplus' is not 'Profit.'
- The 1844 Rochdale Rules as a solvency algorithm.
- W.E.B. Du Bois on the 'Group Economy.'

We need to stop treating the social economy as charity and start treating it as superior engineering.

Wow, we just attended the @patio general assembly. 23 organisers from tech worker co-operative worldwide. Very energising.

We demand democracy and freedom instead of authoritarian tech dystopia. Join us in the international struggle!

Grant for the Web to Make the Fediverse More Sustainable, Democratic, and Fun

Thanks to the Interledger Foundation for their generous Grant for the Web to the Social Web Foundation. With the help of ILF, we are launching a new program area focused on economic issues on the Social Web. In particular, we'll be producing three reports: one on sustainability for social web instances; one for the Fediverse and the creator economy; and one for cooperatives on the Social Web. In addition, we'll be engaging multimedia Fediverse apps for using the Web Monetization standard. You […]

"the reality is that now you have all these other jobs that [other] people used to do, and now you have to do them too.”

Having been a worker-owner for ten years now, there's a lot in this article that rings true. But seizing the means of production was always going to be ambitious. #coops are not for the weak willed.

Great post Richard. More than just another critique of AI hegemony, you suggest alternative priorities:

"....what we actually need is:

Public computing infrastructure.
Public data stewardship.
Public interest research, and
Democratic oversight."

And we could do that with co-operatives, as democratic agents of an entrepreneurial state.

▶️ Workers cooperatives explained

In a worker cooperative, members share interest in the work wich is provided by or ensured through the cooperative.

The members are individual workers (worker-members) whose jobs are directly assured through the cooperative.

A worker cooperative aims to offer its members decent working conditions and income.

Language warning: 'Non-Profit' vs 'Indivisible Reserves.'

One says you can't make money. The other says the money you make belongs to the mission, not the shareholders.

My Glossary maps these critical legal distinctions between the Anglosphere and the Continental Social Economy. Words are infrastructure.

Greetings!

We are considering starting a cooperatively owned, democratically managed cloud computing service for values-driven organizations. Its working name is Henhouse. Our first service would be web hosting, followed by other computing services determined by member discussion and vote.

If this interests you, please complete our brief survey: nc.limeleaf.coop/apps/forms/s/

Your input will help us understand market needs, competition, and pricing expectations. #coops #bigtech #DigitalAutonomy

We will be honest and say that for a small to medium organisation, their are more up front costs to a more open infrastructure.

There's more upfront costs e.g. discovery, communications, quotes, setup. We're a small co-op so we don't have the same amount invested in automation as big tech.

However these costs balance out over the long term as you don't get locked into the tiers and paywalling of big providers where as soon as you hit a certain scale they tighten the screws and start trying to get real money out of you.

That's how big tech work, they set themselves up using loads of capital, hook in the small fishes for free or cheap to get market dominance then once folks are locked into their workflows, they go for the big clients.

Stop playing their game! There is a different way.

We need to talk about Elinor Ostrom. 🗳️

She won a Nobel Prize for debunking the idea that common property always leads to ruin. Her work provides the empirical data for Autogestion.

If you are building a cooperative, her design principles are non-negotiable. They are the difference between a robust commons and a failed experiment.

In 1936, Catalonia didn’t just 'take over' factories; they legislated a new economy.

My translation of the 1936 Decree recovers the legal 'Source Code' for worker control, bridging 90-year-old theory with modern practice.

The 'Perception Premium' is why global capital often ignores the Global South. We must stop translating for the 'gist' and start translating for legitimacy.
