A quick shot this week on the blog: I really like the ColecoVision as a retrodev platform, but I'm not a fan of the 12-second boot screen that also claims every program ever is copyright Coleco.

📚️ ADAM+ is a free (GPL-3 + NC parts) and multi-platform emulator for the ColecoVision game console and its Coleco ADAM expansion module (also sold as a personal computer). It offers support for Coleco ADAM games (.ddp, .dsk), several ROM formats (.rom, .bin, .col), cartridges & disks, HLE BIOS (does not require an external BIOS to work), debugging (several tools), the Super Game module (including the AY audio chip), Megacart bank switching up to 512 KB, state saving, full screen (with built-in bezels) and windowed modes, graphics filters (Sharp, Smooth), gamepad, and controller button mapping.

This week's game is Gateway to Apshai, the last original game in the Dunjonquest series that blends early action RPG and roguelike ideas in an interesting, friendlier, and more "consolized" way than the complex computer games it's related to.

Perhaps most surprisingly to me, you can even play it on a ColecoVision!

@aoineko @angiebaby not to forget the #SEGA SG-1000, which is basically the same hardware of the #ColecoVision (and it's the base for what then became the #MasterSystem) 😄

@angiebaby #MSX and #ColecoVision share the same CPU (Z80), the same Video Processor (TMS9928) and have a close Sound Generator (SN76489 vs AY8910). MSX come with 8/16KB of RAM while Coleco have only 1KB.
So yes, they are very similar pieces of hardware, and it makes sense that an emulator for one would work for the other with minor changes.
