#BoundarySetting

As a person with very severe PTSD, I'm really happy that I think so idiosyncratically about things and don't just swallow whatever drivel passes for social justice on TikTok.

It was so easy for me to fall prey to monstrous, inhuman people. For nearly two decades, I was stuck and unable to escape the folks that unmade me.

Fortunately, I've since realized these people also tend to be deeply regressive and opinionated in the same way evangelical Christians are. And no matter how much they claim to support your "kind," that support evaporates the second you try to say that what they're doing isn't helpful.

I'm safer for their rejection. I have wonderful people around me now, and I can tell because "advocates of disabled people" have stopped attacking disabled people, which means only the real advocates of disabled people remain.

Thank you for seeing us.

Some neurotypical person may have to explain to me why the socially acceptable thing to do when someone calls you pretentious is to checks notes say thank you and lick their boot.

I'm autistic, so as we all know, I struggle to understand "common sense" things like that and am eager to learn so that I can be included in this delusionally toxic society of ours.

Some of that was likely sarcasm.

Things to keep in mind:

  • If you're a woman, and someone calls you manipulative, they're afraid of the only power they've allowed you to keep.
  • If you're an autist, and someone calls you pretentious, they are forcing you to do emotional labor to protect them, your attacker, from their own insecurity.

Never accept as feedback what is intended as abuse.

Freelance Like You Mean It: 4 Rules for Staying Sane and Paid

There’s a lot of noise out there about how to “make it” as a freelancer. But, the real keys to long-term success don’t fit in a TikTok. Here are four survival principles from the frontlines. You can thank us later. Or now. We like coffee and cheese. 1. Know Your Worth Just because someone offers to “pay you in exposure” doesn’t mean you have to accept it. Exposure doesn’t pay the rent—or your internet bill. Know the value of your time, skills, and energy. Price suitably. […]

Yesterdays #threegoodthings
1. I’m finally getting more sleep, I was awake late but woke up later and being able to sleep when my body wants to feels good for me. Zzz…
2. We almost finished the Christmas food shopping so it’s almost time to get the people we love indoors and nail the door shut for the holiday period! (Metaphorically speaking!) and even better the few bits we couldn’t get have been put aside for us by a friend who despite running a successful business keeps working one day a week at a supermarket as “insurance” in case things go badly. P.S if you like #DnD and have been impressed by wyrmwood products but would prefer things made of real wood throughout with no veneers check out harpscorp.com
3. A long time friend and his partner walked into my house unexpectedly last night for a coffee and a chinwag. It was pleasant even though I put down a boundary about knocking/ringing the doorbell first. Usually I wouldn’t have done that but I’m proud of myself that I did.
