You let racists define high school and university curricula, so now you have to learn Black history one typo at a time from me.

Your loss! Teachers are nice and kind, and have to worry about teacher reviews and RateMyProfessor.

Me though? I don't care.πŸ€·πŸΏβ€β™‚οΈ

But this isn't Black history. This is white history: the history of racism in this country.

I see people trying to make sense of what's happening in the world today, without a basic understanding of US racism. That's an impossible task.

Learning about US racism is mandatory for understanding this.

#Netflix is trending #OnHere, but I think for the wrong reason. The CEO of Netflix was called to testify in Congress because "Netflix has the wokest content in the history of the world," according to one GOP buffoon. Makes you feel sad for Netflix. But...

Perhaps in preparation for the hearing, they tamped out a grassroots movement to make "Becoming," the documentary about former First Lady Michelle Obama, number one in streaming for the first week of #BlackHistoryMonth and the first week that Melania's farce has been released. It was working. Yesterday "Becoming" was number 8, and this morning it was 6. My wife spent the weekend watching and rewatching it.

This morning at work, she checked again. Number 4! But wait. Number 4 in children's movies. WTF?. She was almost in tears. The goal posts shifted again for Black women in the U.S.A., in broad daylight, during Black History Month.

So a grassroots story of people longing for the days of competent and incorrupt government thwarted by corporate media companies trying to make the #fascists happy.

is as good a time as any to discover how fucking raw muddy waters was

a crucial part of appreciating black art is to recognize how its led to much more successful global trends, in no small part due to the implicit racial bias of the "free market"

Blues rock, which indirectly inspired most music in existence today, came from black culture. And its black pioneers were mostly not enabled to profit from it

Who Built The Blueprint For Our Freedom?

We often remember the marches, we also must remember the law books. This week, I have kicked off my series, "My Tribute To Black History Giants," by honoring the Legal Minds from Thurgood Marshall to Constance Baker Motley. These strategists turned the law into a tool for liberation. Click the link in my bio or my new blog post, "Week 1 The Architects of Justice - Honoring the legal minds that built the…

The Griffey name holds a legendary place in baseball history!

As we continue to celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth, we take a look at the countless moments and special bond the father-son duo shared on the diamond.

When enslaved Africans reached the United States, they brought their music with them. Black Americans drew upon these traditions, creating distinct new forms of music. One of those is the work song, used to raise spirits, coordinate work, and sometimes, to communicate and plan surreptitiously. You don't have instruments in the field -- or in some cases, they didn't have them at all. But they had people, and people have voices and hands and bodies; and they had tools and work. All these were used to create new kinds of music.

This era is better-documented, though technology necessarily limits us to the 20th century for actual recordings.

This is "It's a Long John," a prisoner work song, recorded in 1934. It's led by a man called "Lightning." The percussion is the men breaking rocks.
