To attain even the permission to perform yoga one must have the grace of Lord Gaṇeśa and the grace of Lord Murugan.
Aum Gaṁ Gaṇapataye Namaḥ. This is Lord Gaṇeśa’s mūla (“root”) mantra. It is also known as His bīja mantra, for it combines Gaṇeśa’s bīja (“seed”) sound, “gaṁ,” with the phrase, “Praise be to Gaṇapati.” This mantra is used for Yoga Sādhana in which we invoke Gaṇeśa and merge ourself with His supreme knowledge and peace.
Because Yoga really does stimulate the kuṇḍalinī śakti, Lord Ganeśa is stimulated within the mūlādhāra chakra, and one is drawn to Lord Gaṇeśa in a temple, or to a picture of Him.
Gaṇeśa is the Lord of beginnings, guiding the practical aspects of our lives that we may best fulfill dharma.
