Almost! Slowly getting through revisions. Bringing in some more contemporary literature. The past few weeks since my thesis defence have been intense. I am only just now getting back into normal rhythm but somehow I have managed to make progress on my revisions despite life and work adding layers. Pup is happy to be back to our normal routine! Goal is to have all my revisions done before the end of February. The end is in sight! Between work, being an #AcademicParent and dragging this thesis towards the finish line, I am ready for a vacation! Or at least to have one less thing on my plate! Onward!

A paper accepted on the last day of the working week. You know, when I was an Early Career Researcher this would be cause for slacking off all the rest of the day. Might revisit that time honoured tradition today as an #AcademicParent 😴

Defence prep continues! Diving into more contemporary and adjacent literature. I'm tired. I would gladly be snoozing alongside the pup. The determined march towards the finish line continues! Slowly, slowly, slowly.

Is it bad that I am more excited about the possibility of having one less thing to do (eventually) than I am about the possibility of crossing the finish line?

Offering childcare would be one small thing EUPHA could do to make this conference a bit more inclusive.

The European Public Health Conference, which is all about equity, diversity & inclusion, does (once again) not offer any childcare.

I'd really think that in a registration fee of – believe it or not - 775€ (and that’s the early bird fee!), childcare could be included.

(I personally will gladly leave my kids at home. But it’d be important for those who don't have that option.)

Dropping L off at nursery this morning was horrific. She cried and ran back towards me and had to be scooped up by a member of staff. My heart cracked. I felt like a failure and that I was failing her. We turned the corner and looked through the window and she was already happy and smiling and distracted by the other kiddos and the prospect of breakfast. I know she’s fine. I know she’s better than fine and is enjoying herself and loving nursery. But the drop offs hurt so much and leave me feeling drowned in guilt.

I created a STEM holiday activity for my son’s kindergarten class - a holiday train w/ simple circuit & LED light. I learned a lot about (basic) engineering & how to make a slightly too complicated activity accessible, & hopefully sparked some students’ interest in #STEM. #SciMom #AcademicParent #STEAM
