Wenn sie Wissenschaftler zum Einstellen der Forschung und zum Selbstmord treiben können, können sie auch Staatschefs zur Kriegserklärung treiben.

米国が皆既日食に盛り上がっているのに刺激されて、この週末、今話題のSFテレビシリーズ「3 Body」（三体）全8話を一気に鑑賞した。原作は中国の超ベストセラーSF長編小説。私が観た配信版ではストーリーを欧米視聴者向けに修正、主要登場人物も多人種、他民族に置き換えられいる。女性が多いのも特徴だ。特に登場人物の女性の多くが博士であり、天才科学者として描かれている。

この西欧向け版では、60年代、中国の文化大革命による知識人へのリンチや殺人を含む弾圧が広がる社会情勢からストーリーが始まり、高名な物理学者の父親を殺された娘（有能な科学者でもある）の国家や社会に対する不信が、その後の展開のカギとなる。トランプなどを筆頭に世界中に台頭するポピュリスト反知性主義的な世相への批判と受け取った。

SFドラマとして面白いだけでなく、科学、特に物理学が大きな役割を果たすので、しっかりと観ていないとストーリーが追えない。私の同世代には「スタートレックを観て、科学に興味を持った」という米国人がたくさんいるが、「３ Body」を観て、科学者を目指すという女性が増えたらすばらしい。

刘慈欣（Liu Cixin）の原作は3部作。今回公開された第1部から先はまだまだ長い。次のシーズン公開前に原作を読んで予習しておこう。

Ce qui peut être logique si la saison 1 est aussi l'équivalent du premier tome du livre, soit 8 épisodes contre 30 pour la série chinoise...

Well, not Three Body Problem specifically, it crops up regularly in sci fi works.
At one point, as supposedly highly advanced intelligence refers to "the three dimensions in which we live."
Except we don't. Spacetime is four dimensions. Or at least, we can perceive four.

Notes on the first 30 min of “3 Body Problem” (Netflix 2024)

(Yes, that's how far I got for now.) The "3 Body Problem" starts out dramatically and graphically gory then suddenly slows down and becomes tedious. The hints that "Something Big Is Coming" weren't enough to keep me slogging through.

@sharan I'm very excited about #3body, we didn't started yet but it's on the top of our list. We both read the books and loved it, so we have high expectations!

Finished watching #gentlemen and the shit rocks. Started #3body and I feel like I'm going to turn out to be pretty stupid pretty fast. Damn science. Always hard to understand.

Okay, so I finished #3Body. It's good. Maybe even great.

I hope they get a S2, because there is so much yet to explore from the novels. This has the potential to be an all-time great sci-fi series.

Well, having binged #ThreeBodyProblem after watching Tencent's #3body adaptation (the Netflix one is much better), now I turn to James #Clavell's #*Shōgun. *Starting the novel while I torrent the 1980 NBC adaptation with Richard Chamberlin (it won 3 Emmys!).

Is it just me or have the quality of old show #torrents gone up dramatically of late? I actually found a torrent of the only season of #NBC's 1982 series Voyagers! (which was a big favourite of 7 yr old me): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voyagers!
