If we stop actively encouraging most people to break the law through bad design, it becomes a lot more politically viable to enforce those laws harshly to deal with the people who don't respond to design changes.

Although it does help a bit, it's really a treatment for the symptoms of the real problems: Road and intersection designs that artificially makes drivers feel safer than they are, and just too many cars in general.

More roundabouts, smarter traffic lights, and streets with appropriate design speeds would do far more to reduce speeding and light running.

@baltakatei That they are approval voting rather than FPTP is at least something.

I'd really like to see the option to choose between multiple different systems.

* Approval
* Condorcet (I'd favour Schultze in particular)
* Scored/Ranged (Like figure skating/gymastics)
* Borda Count
* Single Transferable Vote (For "which N options best represent the community" type questions. I particularly like STV-Condorcet hybrids)

@umbraroze Yes, the Nordic Horizons DLC is gorgeous. Even just a few of the screenshots of the BC DLC they are working on for ATS have made me think "I KNOW THAT!" so I am looking forward to experiencing the same thing.

A comic in four panels:

Panel 1. A gothic sorceress enters a small magic shop, approaching the counter. The gothic sorceress explains her problem to the old seller. She shows her wand with a stone broken on it.
> Old Seller: Welcome! How can I help you?
> Gothic Sorceress: My magic stone is defective, I need a new one.

Panel 2. The old seller put a gem stone on the counter, the gothic sorceress is in shock.
> Old Seller: Alright, that'll be 600 gold coins.
> Gothic Sorceress: What?! It used to be 40!

Panel 3. The gothic sorceress thinks, the old man explains the price increase and a wider view angle show the shop full of Avian Intelligence Parrot.
> Old Seller: That's because of Avian Intelligence: we need these stones to make them.

Panel 4. The gothic sorceress tries to understand. The old man gives up; the angle is even wider showing more of AI Parrots, a huge pile of them.
> Gothic Sorceress: And you're going to sell all of these?
> Old Seller: What do you think...

It's either very funny or very depressing to watch executives trip over themselves to prove who has the worst understanding of what software development actually entails.

Haresh Ved
- Satya Nadella says that 20–30% of all code in Microsoft repositories is now written by AI.
- Sundar Pichai says AI already writes well over 30% of new code at Google.

What does this mean?
- Software development is no longer constrained by typing speed, but by how clearly engineers articulate intent.

A7. For me, a bike ride is just that. I don't want to push or carry my bike at all.

My tolerance for pushing or carrying a bike is limited to where it is unavoidable in a cyclo-cross race. In my head, my dismount and remount is as smooth as this...

@Isthmus I think this would be expensive. My understanding is that the lock core is a big part of the cost of a decent lock because good cores require a lot of very careful and delicate machining of precise and fiddly parts. This design requires two cores. It also requires building and keying cores/bodies in matched pairs which adds some new logistic complexity.

Dry bushing and washing the trunk and roots. The texture is from scratching the epoxy putty with a knife while it was still soft plus the twisted florist wire showing through. I'll put some sort of detail in the hole under the roots but haven't decided what yet. Maybe a small borrowing animal peaking out. I might be able to sculpt a passable rat.

#3207 - Bad Map Projection: Zero Declination

'The zero line in WMM2025 passes through a lot of population centers; I wonder what year the largest share of the population lived in a zone of less than 5° of declination,' he thought, derailing all other tasks for the rest of the day.

@ascentale @theantlady @bikenite A6:

My folding bike doesn't really have a good place for a mounting bracket so I usually stash it in whatever container I have on the rack. Usually a trunk bag but sometimes if I need more space but don't want to bring my trailer I replace it with a milk crate. Sometimes I'll also put it in the trailer.

@jgarber @LibrarianRA If you are eating plants, you are eating cellulose. "non-soluble fibre" or "roughage" is largely cellulose. Besides which, this is a temporary wrapper that is removed, not an ingredient. It's just a fancier version of the same idea behind a cupcake wrapper, cheese cloth, or pudding bag.

There are plenty of things in the process of making a hot dog that we should be concerned about. Temporary cellulose wrappers are not one of them.

“What do you have to hide?“

Everything.

Full stop. Period.

Every. Thing.

What I had for breakfast is my choice to put out in the world.

Who I love, who my friends are, what we talk about, the books I read, the websites I visit, my favourite animal, my choice of shoelaces.

It. Does. Not. Matter. How. “Big”. Or “Small”.

Every. Thing.

It’s all up to me to decide who I want to share anything with.
