Heute geht’s…

JMAP for everything - one of the best FOSDEM-lectures I attended!

Want to know who Godzilla, King Caesar, and King Ghidorah are, how Mechagodzilla will defeat them, and learn more about #JMAP, the successor to #IMAP, and some other protocols? Then check out this video.

Apart from the technical content, the presentation style from @rjbs is also absolutely first class!

@bobulous Unfortunately that's not really an option for this project.

@DerFetzer Thanks! I will give it a closer look.

“Vibe coding” satisfies the Builder. It feels great to see to pass from idea to reality in a fraction of a time that would take otherwise. But it has drastically cut the times I need to came up with creative solutions for technical problems. I know many people who are purely Builders, for them this era is the best thing that ever happened. But for me, something is missing.

Since the end of last year, has silently closed down their APIs. You can't create new applications anymore. Probably due to the excessive scraping leak that was announced at that time. I hate this. How har can it be, to build a sensible rate limiting into this API?

So, I would love to create an application in , that has a GUI and runs on Mac, Windows and Linux. Preferably without shipping a whole browser. How? looked promising, but many people have problems with it. There's literally around 40 options: boringcactus.com/2025/04/13/20

#PHP is dead... or is it?

Cloudflare Radar looked at top 5000 domains and determined that is a lie 😆

PHP is the top programming language. A hard, but necessary, pill to swallow for all the Go-Rust-JS-etc bros. PHP will probably outlive most of us.

#OpenSource #FOSS

PHP is the top programming language according to Cloudflare Radar.

Weirdly, the "Modern E-Mail" Devroom at was my favorite. It made me take another look at @stalwartlabs and it seems to be a really nice project by now. Damn, the setup was so easy, it nearly makes me want to self-host my mails (don't worry I'm not THAT stupid – I've done it before). Now on to some more experiments.

@lascapi @threemaapp @matrix @xmpp I've built a bridge using their paid API (github.com/bitbetterde/Threema).

Using the client API should be possible, too. But when I talked to them a couple of years ago, they were no big fans of this idea, b/c it creates much more traffic than their regular apps. So it seemed a little "hostile" to build it that way.

Seems like a dam is (finally) breaking; here's just a small set of the "wow, Apple...really?" posts from the past week:

spyglass.org/tim-cook-captured/

Liz Lopatto, Anil Dash, and Charlie Warzel were far ahead on all of this.
