Former ICE Employee: "I swore an oath to protect the nation when I signed up. I followed it when I resigned a little over a week ago. I am duty bound to report the legally required training program at the ICE academy is deficient, defective, and broken. I received secretive orders to teach cadets to violate the Constitution"

Read that again.

Ordered. To violate. The Constitution.
This isn’t partisan spin. This is about the rule of law.

Well, I just returned from a VERY interesting (ISF) meeting. Santa Fe’s new mayor was summoned to the meeting by a state legislator in attendance. This led to me having to supply the meeting with an impromptu presentation on First Amendment law and why the City of Santa Fe cannot lawfully charge ISF $25,000+ for a closed streets permit for on March 28. 1/

never speak to anybody from your “insurance company” about medical conditions. it is usually a 3rd party marketing company calling. it’s a way to breach health privacy laws ―there is no regulation over hoodwinking people to talk about their private medical history.

just tell them you don't talk to strangers about your private matters. if the insurance company wants to compel you to do anything health related, they need to talk to your primary care doctor first.

Sadio Mane, The Liverpool Star from Senegal (earning approximately 10.2 million dollars annually),has given the world a lesson in modesty after some fans spotted him carrying a cracked Iphone. His response is legendary:
"Why would I want ten Ferraris, 20 diamond watches and two jet planes? What would that do for the world? I starved, I worked in the fields, I played barefoot, and I didn't go to school. Now I can help people. I prefer to build schools and give poor people food or clothing. I have built schools [and] a stadium; we provide clothes, shoes, and food for people in extreme poverty. In addition, I give 70 euros per month to all people from a very poor Senegalese region in order to contribute to their family economy. I do not need to display luxury cars, luxury homes, trips, and even planes. I prefer that my people receive a little of what life has given me," Mane said.

By African-American photographer Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe (born 1951), “Maya Angelou,” silver print with extensive hand coloring, this print in the collection of the Muscarelle Museum of Art, College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia. #art #photography #BlackHistoryMonth

From William & Mary: ‘“We are so fortunate to have won the bid to acquire this image of Maya Angelou and to honor her in doing so for our alma mater of the nation,” Muscarelle Director and CEO Aaron De Groft said. “Angelou transcends time and place as both a poet of our nation and in her tireless work for decades on behalf of civil rights.”

Moutoussamy-Ashe is an accomplished photographer who studied art at the Art Institute of Chicago. She discovered a love of the camera and the power of her voice from behind its lens when family friend Frank Stewart first introduced her to photography. She studied with renowned photographer Gary Winogrand and at Cooper Union and is represented in many museum and public collections internationally. She is also the widow of tennis star Arthur Ashe, Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient. With her hand-coloring of the image, the 1993 photograph of Maya Angelou is a unique original work.

Angelou visited the William & Mary campus several times over the years. Joanne Braxton, Frances L. & Edwin L. Cummings Professor of the Humanities and English, who interviewed Angelou several times and wrote extensively on Angelou’s writings, praised the museum’s efforts.

“While Angelou was a Wake Forest woman, she gave deeply of herself on her several visits to William & Mary,” Braxton said. “This is a fitting acquisition of an exquisite photograph of the iconic literary and cultural figure who was truly a 'phenomenal woman.' I am delighted that the Muscarelle Museum has acquired this portrait of Maya Angelou. Now she will be with us always.”’

A black & white portrait of Maya Angelou, wearing a print head wrap. The photo has a hand-colored streak of a terracotta color as an accent.

best way to put it is this. I live in a rural area, where local elections can be won by a margin as small as one person, and the person you elect REALLY matters.

We have 2 candidates right now, 1 who has been in office and makes sure the infrastructure and transparency of the office is paramount, and the other that ran on a good ol' boy platform and is trying to say he's different.

if 1 person decides "voting doesn't matter" then ol' boy wins and we're back to square 1-

In August 1863, Frederick Douglass stopped recruiting Black soldiers. He forced the Union to confront its contradictions: unequal pay, denied rank…violence against Black troops. He walked into the WH, challenged Abraham Lincoln directly, and left unconvinced by policy but clear about power. He resumed speaking not because justice had been secured, but because pressure, not faith, is what moves a nation forward.

Image: Recruiting broadside endorsed by Douglass (Gilder Lehrman).

Black-and-white Civil War–era recruitment broadside with large bold headline reading: “MEN OF COLOR TO ARMS! TO ARMS! NOW OR NEVER.” Below, oversized text announces “Three Years’ Service!” The poster calls on Black men to enlist, warning “FAIL NOW, & OUR RACE IS DOOMED” and asking, “ARE FREEMEN LESS BRAVE THAN SLAVES.” Smaller text at the bottom lists organizers’ names and states that meetings will be addressed by prominent speakers. The layout uses dramatic capitalization and dense blocks of text to convey urgency and moral appeal.
