Hi Fedi, it's been a while ๐
@p16r Hi, I appreciate the check-in! Life has been very busy the last couple of months (but mostly good things going on!), so Cup of Cosmology has been on a break. I was hoping to do a stream this weekend, but I got sick ๐ . I'll try to restart streams in two weeks, and then I think I'll be back to semi-regular streams again ๐
This week #CupOfCosmology, my livestream show about the universe, turns 10 years old! Come celebrate with me in this special stream today at 19:00 CEST: https://www.youtube.com/live/kuUweyTtcNA

@BlotchedEmerald Thanks for checking in! It's been a busy summer, but it was great to get back to Cup of Cosmology yesterday. Hopefully now I'll go back to more regular streams again! ๐
@gretared I have found it to be very useful as an addition to other learning methods, but not by itself. I started using it to learn more German vocabulary while I was living in Germany and actively using the language daily (now at level B1-B2). I've also used it for French and I can manage some very basic conversations. More recently I've been using it to review the concepts covered in my Swedish and Finnish courses, and I feel like it has been useful in that regard too.
@Nigel_Lake I haven't found a good app alternative, but I'm moving back into trying to learn a language by consuming media and speaking to people in the language - mixed results so far, though! ๐
Yesterday I broke my 2600 day streak on Duolingo and deleted my account, due to their recent move to replace contract workers with AI. I do not think teaching a language can or should be automated, and I'm tired of seeing companies force AI everywhere. ๐

I realised today my macrame crafts have changed a bit over the years.
How it started: I'm going to make cute Christmas ornaments ๐ฒ
How it's going: I wonder if I can make a choker ๐ค

These men also seem to get very upset when I reply with "I agree that's a good idea for the code, that's why I proposed it in the first place".
Also I would really like to see other men (especially the self proclaimed feminists) call out this behaviour in meetings, because it is so tiring to have to fight just to get my voice heard. #AcademicChatter
One of the most exhausting things about being a (perceived) woman working in computational physics is dealing with men who don't think women can do physics and men who don't think women can code (there is a lot of overlap here). Things men have tried to 'explain' to me recently:
- Basic coding practices
- A topic I have published papers on
- How to debug a code ("have you tried adding print statements")
- How code releases work
- My own ideas ๐ซ

If you want to spend some quality time with #Euclid data, you can use "ESA Sky", which allows everyone to browse public data, pan, zoom, and look around. All in full colour galore, and full resolution:

@mirabilos your two also look so cute! ๐ป
It's been less than three months since these two came home with me, and they've already brought so much joy to my life. They've also brought a lot of chaos and sleepless nights ๐๐

I am up way too early on a Saturday, heading out to the cold (-10 degrees) for an introductory birdwatching event. I'm somewhat questioning my life choices, but I have tea and binoculars so let's do this ๐๐ฆ
Can we take a moment to appreciate the people who remember to close issues they opened on code forums/issue trackers and, very importantly, report back about how they solved the problem. You're the heroes we need. ๐ป #coding
We should all be a bit more like cats: eat when hungry, sleep when tired, scream loudly if needs are not met, set clear boundaries and attack anyone who doesn't respect said boundaries. ๐ธ
