Happy #BlackHistoryMonth !
Not ready to talk about Black History. Still talking about white US history.
Q: Why are Black neighborhoods so often high crime neighborhoods? Must be a lawless people! Violent! Thieves! Predators!
A: There is no such thing as a "high crime neighborhood." The whole concept is entirely made up based on our notion of what we consider a crime.
You may be thinking:🤔 Wait... What?! Not true! A high crime neighborhood has more drug use and sales, theft, and even murder!

A surge in new datacenters, each with the power demand of 100,000 households and a cooling water demand of 1,000,000 m³ per year to train AI models on material obtained without consent on hardware now unaffordable to consumers so fascism-adjacent tech billionaires can sell us the idea that any skill is now worthless and in doing so creating the largest economic bubble ever while simultaneously destroying society and environment.
I think that about sums it up.
There are two problems in computer science:
1. We could do this better
2. We should not do this at all
The Outreachy May 2026 application window is now open!
We’re excited to welcome new mentoring communities and mentors to the May 2026 cohort. If you’re part of an open source, open science, or non-profit community, this is your chance to support diversity and inclusion in tech through our paid, remote internship program.
Mentors are the heart of Outreachy! 👨🏫 👩🏫
By mentoring, you’re not just guiding interns, you’re helping build more inclusive and sustainable open communities.
We invite you to:
➡️ Join Outreachy through an existing #FOSS mentoring project, or
➡️ Submit your community project to participate in the May 2026 cohort.

Has he considered running for office
Except the Nazis. Bootlickers get fucked. Your shit is trash
You may have a favorite desktop that you really love and feel passionate about and that’s great, but we should not be putting down other desktops or their developers for having their own way of doing things. They are our colleagues and often our friends. Just about everyone who works on desktop Linux is an expert in their field in one way or another. And everyone is passionate about what they do and cares deeply about the experience they deliver their users.
I’m disappointed at how ingrained tribalism is in the desktop Linux landscape and how frequently I have to remind chatters to treat developers from other desktops with kindness and respect
After 10 months in review, I finally merged my branch to add a menu model property to Granite.ListItem. This makes it easy to add a context menu to list items and it handles things like long-press on touch, the menu key, repositioning its anchor point depending on the input method, etc. Very excited about this!
In this sense, what is AI if not the inevitable confrontation of consumerism within the digital medium?
The expensive and often unnecessary output, with a significant cost and waste creation.
Is it not the same problem we already face in the real world? Cheap products with little value
@annaecook congratulations! Thanks for all of your work here 🩷
So I know a lot is going on right now, but I do want to share this:
I’m excited to share the launch of the new Microsoft Inclusive Design website 💙
This project is my love letter to the community and practice that’s shaped my work for nearly a decade.

Turned off bridging for elementary. Kinda feels like this was inevitable with bluesky tbh
Hey companies out there,
don't shift your focus on AI, focus on humans.
Good luck trying to get humans back when the AI bubble bursts!
And yes, it will..

Recently discovered No Sabo Concheria just a couple blocks away from me. Firstly, incredible pastries. The best concha I’ve ever had in my life. The horchata latte is delightful. Al pastor sausage croissant is so good. And they sell uncooked tortillas, so that’s another thing I get to buy local now! I need to find out if they sell their salsa too. I’m very excited about this place
I apparently broke 8,000 followers over the weekend. Thanks everyone. It means a lot that you think I have worthwhile things to say. I appreciate you 🩷
